i have them in my RR 4.6 and they don't seem that much better than the "Cool Blues" that i have in my DI. i also have the SilverStars in my Saab 9-3, which seem to be alot better than regular bulbs.

I've got the Silverstars in my '01 DII.

I did an unscientific test and AB'd the CB vs the SS. I parked in front of my white garage door at night, with a CB in one headlight and an SS in the other headlight. The SS definately seemd brighter and whiter than the CB's (to me).

Not sure if the SS are worth the large price difference between the CB's, though... when my SS's burn out, I'll prob revert back to CB's. (I bought the SS's when there was a rebate on them.)

I got a set of Silver Stars for my D1. They are white lights, and I think they look a lot better than the stock yellowish. They were about 40 dollars at some autoparts store. Go to Sylvania's website, and they have a list of car lights, and the part # for your rover. I like mine.

A bulb that seems to actually produce more lumens (brightness) than stock halogen, but still requires only standard 55/65 wattage, is the Philips VisionPlus. You won't get that "cool" blue HID-like colour, but what is it you want??? To see far, or to look cool???

For those that want to look cool, there is also the Philips BlueVision, for that "HID" look.

However, the SilverStars are supposed to be very similar to the Philips VisionPlus, so I guess they are useful for those seeking better night vision...

Get these. I did some research and these did really well. I have them in my 97 Disco, and saw a good improvement in light output and color. Very white and similar to PIAA Super whites. This site has them for $30 SHIPPED FROM THE UK (where I got em). No dumb blue tint like many bulbs these days too. haha

Oh, In some test by some headlight companies, the Hella's sucked.

I have the Hella Vision Plus lamps in my RRC and the hella bulbs didnt do much over stock. I replaced them with GE's purchased at Walmart. Much better. Couple that with some Hella 500 fog lights and you've got a mean low beam spread. The 500's actually extend farther than the low beams do. (think mine might be aimed a litle too high)

I put a set of Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in. I noticed a big improvement in clearness. The beam was a bit further too but more than anything it was how clear and white everything was. The factory bulbs always seemed a bit weak. To me it was quite noticeable. Bulbs were a bit pricey though.

Are you guys upgrading your headlight circuit so that full advantage is being taken in terms of power at the bulbs?

I ran the Hella h4 +50% bulb in the Pig for about 10 months. Why only ten months? Because they burnt out. I was really let down. I have been running a set of the sylvania super duper white lights for a few months now and they are indeed, very nice. After installation, I adjusted my aiming down a bit as to not piss off any oncoming drivers.

Hey Alan,
Did you install 55 or 65 watt Silverstars?

Michael,

The auto store I bought the bulbs from had a guide for different make vehicles and the one listed for D1's only had one model bulb (9003ST) to choose from. The box says 60/55 but the website (http://www.sylvania.com/auto/silverstar.htm) says they're rated up to 65/72 watts so I'm guessing it has to do with circuit/relays??

So far I'm very happy with the light. Much brighter and I tend to do a lot of driving in dark conditions.

Hope that helps.

I am about to buy some silverstars, but can't figure out which to get. What is the size for my D2 and what wattage should I get. Thanks!

Jordan,

Check your owner's manual. It should say what wattage. As for model bulb, the auto store you get them from should have a guide book somewhere near the bulbs. Look in there for the listing for D2's. The D1 bulb is model 9003ST. Could be the same for D2 but check first.

bulb brightness is only part of the equation for improving the headlight output. the lens itself is probably more important.

as an example - the legal Hella Vision Plus lens is better than the stock lens on my 109. the E-Code lens on my RR is WAY better than the Vision Plus although technically they are not legal.

both have Hella Xenon bulbs, yet, the E-Codes are way more brighter than the Vision Plus.
