Hi guys. I believe i'm having alternator problems with my 94 Disco, but I wanted a second opinion. Recently my battery died in my truck, I had it replaced and all was well. About 2 weeks later while driving my truck, I noticed power started to dim in the car, and resumed to normal levels when I accelerated. This led me to believe alternator for sure. I got home, parked her, and when I went back to start it up, she was dead. I gave it a jump, pulled it in the garage, and took the positive cable off the battery, but she kept running, I thought surely the truck would have shut off. So now i'm having second thoughts. Then after doing a few searches on here, I read that the tach stops working when the alternator is on the way out, and my tach is been dead for about 6 months now, never bothered to figure out what the problem was. So my question, after reading what I have posted, what does the problem sound like to you experts, alternator? Or somehting more.
I look forwards to your replys
 Regards
 N Ali

Being a 94 it will not have (famous last words) a serpentine belt. Its odd that the car lasted 6 months without a charge. So start with the belt, is is worn, loose etc?
Now, Head over to Radio Shaq, they have for $6 a simple battery/alternator tester. Check out the power from both.
Come back and then tell us how you are doing

 1)Bench charge battery.
 2)Take a resting voltage at battery. 12.1 +/-
 3)Start engine and check voltage 13.4 to 13.8 +/-
4)Turn off ignition. Pull pos bat cable. Either take good ampmeter or a small 12v light bulb and hook in between pos terminal and pos cable. If it glows it's a bad diode in the regulator built into the alternator.

Call Nathan and order rebuilt Bosch. Don't be surprised if it takes a couple tries to get a good one.
