The LR dealer here in Alpharetta, Ga told me that the trans filter only needs to be changed once at the 30k service. Is this true? Sounds like bulls--t to me, or maybe they like selling new trannys to newbies like me. Any info would be appreciated. |

No, the dealer is correct. Your manual probably says the same thing. Once at 30k is what ZF reccomends. Of course you should still continue to change the fluid on a regular schedule after the 30k filter change. - Axel

I have a 97 D1, and the owner's manual recommends a filter change every 30 k miles. But later, LandRover issued a service bulletin indicating that as long as the filter was changed at 30k, it did not have to be changed again. |

Thanks for the answers guys, I just bought my 99 and found the owners manual under the passenger seat. It verifies what everyone said, but being a mechanic myself(heavy diesel trucks), my mind still has a hard time grasping the thought of changing a filter only once in the life of a vehicle. |

I am with you on that Steve. I changed mine at 110K and probably will again somewhere around 200K. |

I bought my truck with 90k on it, and it seemed awfully neglected in the service dept. side of things. I ended up changing my fluid AND filter at around 160k. (It had been changed before, one of the torx screws was almost stripped out securing the screen) No issues have arouse from doing this, and I honestly couldn't see where it would do more harm than good. |
