John F, what a great idea!

Just yesterday I drove Cold Springs/Wheeler Pass for the first time. What a great trail! On the way back to Vegas we took Trout Canyon Rd to Lovell Canyon and through Red Rock. It took about 6 hours but we stopped a lot.

I've driven the Old Potato Rd quite a few times and thoroughly enjoy it, just as much as I enjoy burgers and beer at Mtn Springs.

One other trail I've done was over Gass Peak in the Sheep Range to Mormon Well Rd with a short stop at the Corn Creek nature area. I think there is more green there than in all of Vegas. We then crossed over 95 to Lucky Strike Canyon. I wanted to try to find the Lucky Strike Mine but my wife had enough 4 wheeling for the day. Instead, we took some trails south to Kyle Canyon Rd. We ended up washing the dust out of our throats with bloody marys at the Mt Charleston Hotel bar.

I'm interested in driving around Nelson's Landing or the area around the river there. I know there are a lot of trails down there but I haven't spent much time there. Can anyone recommend some good 1/2 to 1 day trips?

If you want a full day go north on I 15 to Mesquite and take a right up over the mountains to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.(100 miles from Mesquite) you can return through St George.
