There is only 1 thing keeping me from taking the jump and grabbing up one of the last 03 Discos at a reduced price, the cockpit. After renting one for a week in Arizona and driving the occassional loaner from my dealer, I find the cockpit it not as comfortable or as roomie as my Freelander or as I have had in any of my other vehicles. As I drive the entire eastern half of the U.S. in my job, I keep asking myself the obvious, would I regret buying a car I wasn't really comfortable in? I'm thinking I should hold off another year and see if they improve the hip room and overall cockpit of the 2005 models. Any one hear anything in this regard?

It does grow on you Bill. Personally I like the upright driving position and the quality feel of the steering wheel. On the other hand I could use a couple of more inches of leg room as I am 6'3'' and my gas knee does get sore on long trips. It is also a bit narrow but after driving it for three years my D2 feels like my favorite pair of jeans. Other vehicles just feel "loose" when I sit in them. -Chris |

I agree with Christopher. At first I banged my left elbow many times. but now, after almost a year I love it. I'm 5'10" and don't have any problems. Also, everything is at arms reach. Remember, ofcourse, you're asking a group of Disco lovers... |

The only things I had problems with were the left elbow space (which no longer bothers me, and in fact has become rather comfortable after I found the elbow-disco zen spot ) and the low cut off on the windscreen. I have to duck to see traffic lights, a PITA but certainly not enoguh to make the truck uncomfortable for me. |

Bill, I have a '97 DI, which has the same window view height as a freelander and a little less room then a D2. I have test driven a D2 and a Freelander. I personally prefer the D2 over the Freelander for seat and room comfort, but the Freelander did feel a lot more fun on the highway. I drive 2 hours one way to work in some cases....I had to drive 4 hours to Pittsburgh the other day. My DI can get a little stiff on long drives, but I still like it alot. I bought a DI because of the good deal I got at the time and I didn't want the payment of a new vehicle (not that I couldn't, just didn't want it). If you are thinking about waiting for the 2005 model, what I would do is wait for it to come out, test drive it and if you like it buy it. If not and you still want a 2004 buy one of the last ones on the lot and then you get CDL |

I'm seeing some of my initial concerns expressed by you owners, but you seem to have "lived with them" and adapted. I love what the vehicle can do, I've become a LR addict w/ my Hippo. I think Joey's idea of waiting another year is a wise choice for me. Who knows, maybe Ford will widen the seats and/or narrow the console for us "full figured" guys ;-) |

no offense, but most freelander ppl aren't buying a Land Rover for the same reason ppl buy disco's... not meant to hurt anyones feelings... but lets be real. how many 2003 Range Rovers do you see getting muddy... they are capable... but no one takes them anywhere... the freelanders are fairly capable vehicles but they are made more for a price point... a market need... if you buy a disco for its purpose, for what its made to do... you will be satisfied... i've got a D1 and love it... but you have to except that they are made for wheelin'... not Ga 400 traffic, or for there exceptable breaking... highway noise... and leaking alpine windows... they are what they are... and we love 'em |

http://members16.clubphoto.com/william766536/1824375/owner-c2a9.phtml Mmmm... no offense taken, but don't make the mistake of lumping everyone in the same boat. Not all Freelander ppl (or Disco ppl) want the same thing out of a vehicle. And some of us FL ppl do like off road! Why do you think I'm even considering a Disco? |

HAHA Bill that's funny. I have a co-worker who drives an Escape to work and has an Early Bronco Buggy for his weekend toy. You seem to be quite the same. Good to see something like that after a bad day. |
