I've have twice I have slid down my driveway in the ice and snow while in reverse, and I have not heard or felt the ABS pumping. Going down forwards and I can feel it kick in... What gives? ETC is incredible in the snow, not this time!

Yeah - ETC can be kinda strange at low speeds. If your brakes lock all four wheels just as they begin to spin, ABS/ETC has no data to work with. The wheels lock up as normal with no interaction. I would suggest dropping the shovel and backing out with the snow on the driveway. It will pack it down and you may have to salt it later, but at least you will get out -Curtis |

Curtis, it too could be I had my foot on the brake and just letting the action of the car being in reverse (not using the gas) to propel me backwards. Hmmm. On one attempt, I ended up sideways after sliding a few feet. Funny, but a lady in a CRV, stopped near the bottom of the hill to watch! How embarrasing! I put it in low and recovered with the help of the ETC. I was able to get back up. |

Yep, ETC doesn't work unless you have your foot on the gas. |

Would Hill Decent Control work in reverse? |

Are you not getting traction to get out of your driveway? Or sliding while on the brakes? If the latter, then it's an ABS issue. One reason may be not allowing the ABS system to set itself. It (I believe) needs all four wheels to roll at a certain speed as a "baseline" before the ABS will work. If you are on the brakes, sliding, without that baseline roll, that might be why the ABS is not kicking in. |

HDC will work in reverse, and it will work without your foot on the gas. To use HDC, however, you must be in low range. Traveltoad is correct. You must go 4 mph and see your ABS light go out before any HDC/ABS/ETC functions will work. |

Lately, there has been such a build up of ice and snow on the driveway, I have only been able to get up it in Low. And that is after shoveling. Time to buy some salt I suppose! |
