Last year, after several weeks of fits and starts, one of the passenger door locks decided to stop working. After a year, it started working fine again. But yesterday, the entire system decided not to work at all. When I push the button, the alarm will arm, but the doors do not lock. I checked the Center Door Lock fuse, but it was OK - so I replaced it, and it still won't work. I don't feel like waiting another year for it to fix itself.

An electrical / fuse problem? Or is the driver side door lock dead; therefore, shutting down the rest of the lock system? Or...

Thanks,

you can still unlock all doors with the key, but not the fob? Is the fob good? Battery etc...

It is your actuator that locks all doors I think that it is in the drivers side door panel.

OK, I don't have the truck with me now, but I do know that if I manually lock the doors from the inside, they do not all lock together. The controller still has enough batteries in it to get a signal to the alarm.

Thanks, I suppose the next step is to pull the door off and test the main actuator - or wait a year.

My 97 D1 is acting up in this arena too. The rear door button is not unlocking therefore, the only way to open the rear door is to put in the key and fully unlock the door while pulling up on the door handle. So the question is this. Does one need to look at the door locking mechanism in the door or is it a combination of the actuator and some other central current delivering swtch which is else were in the vehicle? Being as I don't own a Factory electrical manual for this Land Rover as of yet any imformation would be most helpfull.

Its a bad latch. I had the same issue. There is a helper spring in the latch mechanism itself and once this goes bad the actuator does not work properly. When you use the key you are fully extending the unlocking mechanism which allows you to get in the door. You may also find yourself having to pull the knob inside in order to get out.

You will need to remove the upper frame mount in order to install it. A new latch is in the neighborhood of 60.00 and its a GM part.

After a year of my girlfriend thinking I was locking her out of the car I decided it was time to install it. No problems since.

Will can you specify in further detail the upper frame mount???

I have the same problem on my front passenger's door and the rear door and on the rear I do see what appears to be a spring that has broken loose, on the front I can't see much because of the window frame. I did change the actuator on the front door that fixed the problem for about a month but now it does not work at all.

The black portion..The upper part of the door. There are some bolts on the lower part 10mm. and torque screws on the outer lower shell. You will need to pull the black frame mount completely out to get to the latch area.

The black frame that serves at the window frame?? How easy is to get the unit back in its original place. I hesitated taking the window out because of lack of time, knowledge and I didn't have the spare locking mechanism at hand so I figure I would wait. How easy is it to change the unit, are there any parts that I need to be careful with?

Tony,,,yes...the black frame. Its not to bad to get back in its original position. Do yo have to be careful with any parts?? I would say its a given no matter what you are working on with your truck.

My driver side door stopped working with the FOB. I have to manually insert my key into it to get it to Unlock. I notice that when I shut the door, it wont latch closed and it bounces back open. Inorder to get it to shut, I have to lock and unlock the door with the FOB and then the door will shut. THis only seems to happen when it gets cold and rainy outside...

Will, how many screws are on the black frame, I know of one that is right underneath the locking unit. Are there any others on the opposite side of the door? Dose the rubber lining have to come off as well or does that stay put? Sorry about all this questions but I am planning on taking the unit out this weekend

There are two 10mm bolts on the bottom You pull the rubber mount off the top before removing the black frame.

Best of luck.
