I have a set of GBR HD rear axles and im about to order a set of 4.1 gears. I installed my lockers so I am familiar with the process, but are there any other parts that i should order that are needed or will make the install easier. I was going to get the install kit from GBR consisting of "pinion height shims, 1 set - bearing preload shims, 1 pinion seal, 2 drive flange gaskets and 1 differential gasket". is this enough?
Thanks

A torque wrench, a dial indicator and some of that goope for seeing what the gear tooth contact is looking like. Pulling the pinion shaft opens up a whole new can of worms. Simply swaping the in the lockers are quite bit less work. The 4.1:1 ratio pinion and ring gear sets are going to have there own setting requirement based on how they are matched. You may find you will have to assemble, check and disassemble the entire assembly several times to get the pinion in the correct position with the carrier and respective ring gear's axis of rotation. Good luck it is a job I don't enjoy. Sharp, heavy gear oiled up metal parts and lots of heavy wrenching are hell on the hands. I've never tried them but those mechanix glooves look like they might be a good idea.

Mechanix gloves are a godsend. I dont touch my truck without them anymore. Even if its just to keep the oil off my hands so they're not black all week.
