One headlight is noticeably brighter than the other. in fact its to the point where one headlight does even look on. im positive it is not the bulb b/c i have changed it and the dim headlight changes side. Usually the headlight will fully illuminate after several minutes (5-35). I inspected the headlight plugs and harness and everything looks good as do the fuses. This leads me to think it is the switch. The only peculiar thing is when i turn the headlights on, the highbeam indicator in the instrument cluster is also dimly lit. When the highbeam indicator extinguishes the dim headlight turns on fully. Any ideas..?

Measure the resistance between the two +ve terminals in the dim headlight. Sounds like you have a short between the two. If it drops down as it warms up then I'd check the switch next.

have you considered that one filament (the low beam) may be failing to light (I'm not speculating on why) but the driving light (sidelight / daytime running light) is illuminating.

This happened to me once in the past in a different vehicle. I could not figure it out and the highbeam indicator was dimly lit like you said. It was one of the headlight fuses--I thought I had checked them but one was bad as it turned out. There are several in the vehicle, check the ones in the box underhood. Donald, I dont think the Classics have sidelights like the Disco, so I dont think that is a possibility.

Ok, actually I take my previous post back. I dont think it could be a fuse, except for the main one in the dash. When you say it changes sides, do you mean after you changed the bulbs or just randomly? I dont think it could be the switch. If you can trace the wires look for a relay of some kind. My guess is that there is a multiple application relay somewhere, probably in the underhood fuse box.

This morning the high beam indicator was on and would not shut off, interestingly i also had no head lights at all, but still had my parking lights and directions. then i had just high beams and then finally my regular low beams. i ordered the switch just in case. i had been running 85/100w lights for about 1.5 yrs now w/ my stock harness so im thinking that migh have had something to do with it. is there a relay for the headlights? i looked at the wiring diagram and i couldnt find one ....
