Not only the video, but you get the book too: "Comes with a VHS tape of the event, along with a book detailing the event by Chris Bennett!"

Can you imagine having a CT spec 110 with a 200TDI that only has 35k on it? Nice...

I liked the inclusion of this: "the price listed includes full federalization, both EPA and DOT. What this means is that it can be insured easily, and will be included in any recall campaigns."

I'd love to see the look on the dealership's face when that thing rolls in for a recall service, or any service for that matter.

I wonder about this truck. Skytop is not listed as a NHTA registered importer.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/web_RI_list07252003.html

So where are they shipping it to to get the all important NHTA/DOT sticker? and work completed at.

http://www.eastcoastrover.com/imports.html

Does anyone know if the CT's ran wolfs or wagon wheels? That seemed to catch my eye as well. These guys have a paint shop and the kit for CTs is avaiable if you look hard enough.

Makes wonder just how slim shady this truck actually is...

Just did. They are getting back to me about it. I guess the individual responsible for the truck had stepped out. I'll post what I find out.

Plus, I thought all Camel Trophy vehicles had the roof rack attached directly to the internal cages instead of attached to the roof gutters.

Greg,

All of the CT discos had a roll cage mounted roof rack, but this 110 has the appropriate rack for a CT rig. It also has the proper CT '93 style snorkel which goes in through the bonnet. It looks ugly, but it is correct.

I would guess that it is a Genuine CT 110, but they swapped out the sandglow solid steel wheels used in 93 for those cheesey wagon wheels, and then added the side steps for daily driving... Shame that all the livery has been taken off of it though. Some of the stickers are hard to get ahold of like the appropriate "film unit" stickers that would go on the front doors.

Thanks,
Nathan Hindman

personally doubt it can be federalized with a 200Tdi engine. wouldn't it need the 3.9 to match the specs of the NAS version for that to happen?

I have worked with Gabor Antalics, who owns Skytop Rover in Philly, and he has been nothing but forthright in all of our dealings. Gabor is, by all means, an upfront guy, so please call him and ask away...215-426-BRIT.

You're right about wanting to be rich, I would kill for a ride like this!

Good luck,
Brad

Brad,

I wasn't implying anything regarding Skytop as business, nor have I heard anything to contradict your opinion.

I was just wondering how the he was going to accomplish the federalization, given he is not a registered importer with the NHTA/DOT.

No worries Eric. Great question. I have researched the importing subject several times myself hoping that I get a more favorable result each time (does that make me crazy?), but until the government wheels turn, nothing is going to happen for the Defender lover in all of us (unfortunately).

The Defender is what got me started in rovers to begin with. Eight years ago (when I was 9) I saw my first D90 at the doctors office, and fell in love with the thing right there. I told my dad, "I have to get me one of those Hummer/jeep things when I'm older." I thought it was as tough as a hummer, but the size of a jeep.
I hope I can get one in a couple of years.

Brad,

Crazy? Hell no. I would love to get an Ex-mod myself for a pure trail rig. Just so much damn mis-information out there. A lot to digest and understand. But the rules are the rules are the rules! Imagine thousands of POSs imported and driving around....Scary.

At least in the Great White North (Bob and Doug MacKenzie style...take off eh!), there are 15 yr old Defenders to play with. We (in the US) have something to look forward to in 2010 when Defenders will be legal here (only 6 1/4 years to go). Is that nuts or what? As old as they would be, it would still be an awesome trail rig with the 200 tdi...heck, the Series rigs are still keeping up (and bypassing some) in the off road community!

by the way, anybody of you have double citizenship ?

Basically what you could do is import Defender to other country, where you have citizenship, then bring it to US on temporary basis (upto 1 year). Then you can just go out of country (e.g. to Mexico) and bring it in on temporary basis again.

This wouldn't be the first '93 Tdi D110 imported that is legal. The Tdi's need the addition of a catalytic converter (among other things) by an RI to make it in.

Anton... some of us might have dual citizenship and maybe even in countries that build Rovers. :-)

I spoke with Gabor. he is using a reg Importer who is assisting him and wil do the final reg for him. He will soon have a Reg Import status,fo rhis own shop.

I spoke with another Reg Imp. and the price appears reasonable, given a 93 US and the needed work.

Didn't want to get into it with him as I have no real intention of buying and didn't want to waste his time.

So there you go.
