One of my DII's has a vibration at about 25mph to baout 45mph, if I let off the gas is goes away and comes back under acceleration. Any thoughts?

Lewis,

You need to be more informative about said name D2.

What type of lift? How many miles on the lift? Tires? Size? Miles? Where do you think the vibe is coming from? Front or back? How are your brakes? How is your transmission / t-case? Any leaks? How about you panhard rod ends? Steering damper? The list goes on.

Go here and do a search in the technical archives:

Find much on D2 vibes you will........

My friends 99D2 had the exact same issues (vibes at 25-45 let off it goes away, etc). He ended up with a u-joint failure at 75-80mph in heavy traffic. Sent parts everywhere. The failure destroyed the tcase and all. There's something about D2 u-joints being close to the manifold causing the grease to melt out or that's what I've heard.

Lewis, don't be afraid to post what you find on this thread. Who knows, you might find something new to another person with the same issues.

FWIW, the Pig has been going through some vibe issues lately. Unfortunately, it's all induced by me.

#1 After the SAE trip, the rear of the pig started bouncing and the frequency was directly related to speed. Tire cupping on my rear MTR's is the culprit. Before the 500 mile drive I have the tires rotated and each individual tire re-balanced. SOLUTION: This thursday I am purchasing 5 new 265/75 R16 BFG AT KOs.

#2 A week before MAR, I installed a 3" OME lift on the Pig. For a while it was going good. But after many laps at MAR's trail loops and 5 hours on Rich Mtn in Georgia, and I am starting to notice drivetrain vibes at various speeds. The D2 drivetrain was not designed to be driven around everyday extended by 3". SOLUTION: I just ordered the HD front driveshaft kit and the HD rear driveshaft replacement from Bill at Great Basin Rovers. The rear shaft requires removal of the rotoflex that does not like a lot of lift on the D2 and the front kit allows you to actually grease your joints.

Just thought I would share,

Paul

Thanks Paul, I'm going to go out this afternoon when it warms up a bit and see what I can find. I think i'll pull the rear DS and drive a bit see if that might be it. I'mm running BFG AT's with about 5000 miles, I can't see any cupping or feathering and I did notice a spot on the inside of one of the rims that loks like a wheel weight may be MIA. I don't know if it is a recent loss or where one used to be with the old set of tires. I'll post what I find.
Later,
Lewis
