Anyone awake out there? ... Help!!! Very tired, house torn apart ("remodeling"). Hubby's been out of the country for the last week. Due back in LAX any time now (but that won't help). Been parking outside (curbside) for the past few days. Swung in earlier this evening to parallel park and (for the love of gawd, ever so lightly!) went over the curb a bit as I rounded a corner. Don't know if that had anything to do with it, but that's when the trouble started ... Every time I made a tight turn, the horn blaired. Then ... Every time my knee touched the steering wheel. Thought all was okay (for the evening) when, at approx. 11:45 PM PST, I hear a NON ENDING LOUD horn. Right in front of my house (and many others)! Coencidence?!? OF COurse not. Geeze, I go hauling out there, start the thing, jiggle the steering wheel, and it finally stops. Now I'm lying awake, waiting. OMG!!! It just happened again. (12:15AM) Someone is going to call the police. Shit. (I should also mention that recently, I've had what appears to be a possible "stalker" calling me). I'm a damn wreck. Anyone awake right now? Shit, shit shit. (sorry about the language)

when all else fails, disconnect the battery. That'll shut it up until you can get some sleep. A simple wrench will do the job. Or, you can pull the fuse for the horn and still have a running rig.

If i screw it up right now (which i just might) he'll disconnect when he arrives (maybe 50 minutes or so) Thanks. God, I love my DWeb buddies. :-)

The fuse for the horn is in the engine bay on the passenger side. Its fuse number 4 (30amp fuse). Just count 4 from either side (there are seven all together so it doesn't matter). Hope this helps. Good luck, and I'm sure everything will be fine in the end.

By the way, the fuse puller looks like a pair of plastic tweezers (I think its yellow) if you can't fine/get to the tools you need. You can find it under the steering wheel where the main fuses are, and it has its own little home. You can take that out and it'll help you pull the fuse in the engine compartment.

Thanks again, you're a darlin'. I'm going to have a look around ... Just to clarify, I have an '01 D2 ("electromobile").... Fuses are getting confusing (heheh? stupid pun. ... When all else fails, stupid humor?) Thanks again, all will be okay :-) (um, haha? a fire engine has already circled our street, luckily, no more horn at the moment).

Sounds like a short in the steering wheel area judging by the original post...Hopefully you have few enough miles and are still under warranty....
95D1s had short potential in the steering wheel and that would set off the airbag.....

Ha, we had this on our protege! Only happened when the temp got somewhat low on a high humidity night. Had moisture in steering wheel cover on the horn "button".

Came home from a weekend trip once and the mazda was just sitting there "growling" at us...

Kim,

I just had my steering column replaced under warranty due to a short. In my case, the horn would work all the time with the switch off. With the switch on, the horn would work intermittently. I never realized this until a dog ran in front of me, I went to hit the horn and nothing happened. The a few minutes later I tried it again and it worked. At the dealership I was explaining this to the service writer, one of the senior mechanics overheard me, and diagnosed the problem. He said he’s seen “several” with this problem. If this mechanic had been there, I’d still be dealing with this because of course the horn worked perfectly once at the dealer. They were great and went ahead and replaced the column even though they could not get the horn to short and not work. Long story short, the problem was solved. Hope you’re still under warranty though, I think it was around $900 or so.

Not sure your issue is related, but it sounds like it could be, although mine was a lack of ground, yours could be closing the circuit somehow and setting off the horn.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback ... Luckily, I'm still under full warranty. I've been having other extremely illusive "mysterious Lucas related" problems with it since the end of October. Guess I better haul the thing on into the dealer again (it's home away from home). Meantime, until I can get an appointment, I'll "put a sock in it" :-)
