I just look the other day and noticed I am starting to get some of the dreaded "Alpine Window Rust" Has any one had this taken care of under the rust warranty. Its a 98 D1 so I know it still has coverage. Any ideas or advise would be helpfull.

Talk to your dealer if they give you a hard time try LR North America 800-637-6837 and have your vin# handy.

I had mine repaired under warrenty on my '97 Disco, also the rear door jams and some work on the bottom of all doors.

Of course the Regional Rep was very helpful, but he did point out that the warranty is for the original owner only.

But did the work anyways.

My '96 was taken in for this job by the previous owner, sometime in 98. My local dealer sends all bodywork outside, to a place called "West Coast Specialties" in San Diego. Guess what, rust appeared again as early as in 2000, and by August of this year I couldn't take it anymore and repaired it myself. In process, I found that the body shop that did the rust repair work didn't bother even using a drop of primer! They just sanded it down a bit, and repainted.

So, beware of warranty rust repair done by your dealer.

If you can see the rust, fear the rust that you cant see, it can get ugly. I just repaired the rust around my alpine windows a few weeks ago. Once I got the windows out I about crapped myself as the rust was pretty bad...but its pretty easy to fix. I had a can of Rover touch up paint (spray can) and after bondo, primer, and sanding, you cant tell it ever had a problem.

CJ,

IT is covered under the warranty. There is a limit though on mileage and age and should be in your owners manual. You are probably coming pretty close if not exceeding it for a 98 but check it out.

Best of luck...I had the same issue.

The warranty is supposedly only valid if you've had your yearly inspections. It is for 6 years from original sale date, with unlimited mileage.
