The main reason I am interested in this is because it takes place in Portland or Seattle. This year it was in Portland, on the Motocross track. I've driven it, and even with a lot of mud, it wouldn't be too difficult - all momentum based driving - but they always seem to flip out about it when they do this every year! Anyway, one of the local newspapers had a two page article on it this year and they didn't even mention the Disco, and the only thing they said about the Range Rover was that it was heavy... Well, here is the blurb from the more official publication on-line: "As the course deteriorated and became increasingly technical, the usual suspects rose to the top, with the Land Rover Range Rover earning the top scores for off-road handling and off-road capability, followed by the Land Rover Discovery in each category. In spite of all the high-tech electronic all-wheel-drive systems, stability and traction control, the Suzuki Vitara V6, with a traditional part-time 4-wheel-drive system and no center differential, received the third-highest score in off-road handling and the fourth-highest score in off-road capability. The short-wheelbase Vitara V6 was very maneuverable and a blast to drive in the adverse conditions, earning it the top scores. " Now that makes more sense! Notice, the way they drove the Vitara through the mud was probably a big factor in it's score. |
