Hey guys,
My name is David and I am a newbie to this board and my new 98 Discovery. I was looking over the website and came across Robert Pearce's Disco, that thing is awesome. My question to all of you is how did he lift it that high, what are all the parts needed, and how is the ride at that height? I tried emailing Robert but never got a response so I was hoping maybe you guys would know something about his vehicle. I have long been a jeep fanatic and I actually still have my TJ around for trail duty. I am a competent jeep guy and with your help hopefully I will soon be competent around the Disco.

That Disco looks like one I saw at Autotrader.com a few monthes ago. It said it had a 5.0 engine in it I was going to call and ask who did it or how it was done but did not want to bother the seller seeing as I knew I was not going to buy it. In the ad it stated 38s it was riding on.

looking at the photos I guess it could be done with NRP 4 inch springs maybe 2" spacers and a 2" body lift and alot of cutting looking at the pics. With that much cutting maybe just 4" springs and 2" body lift.

It's your Land Rover, but is that really what you want to do with it? I know, "different strokes for different folks", but the Land Rover is a beautiful thing. Keep it beautiful man.

once you listed all of the tv's ps2 stuff... i was a little dismayed for the reason he wanted the disco...
most of the guys out her outside of ATL just want big pickups, lift 'em up....
who care how much flex they get, or how stiff they are... lets make it tall, big mud tires.... drive on the street most of the time... and go through the occassional HUGE mud puddle...
so homo!

That guy probably wanted to go all out and see how big, tall, powerful, hi-tech, and unique he could make his rover.

I say if he has the money, time, and DESIRE to do something like that to his rig, then good for him.

If you look a little closer, he created an absolutely useless piece of shit that is not nearly as capable as a Disco in bone-stock trim. That "truck" was certainly street duty only - note no diff guards, sliders, undercarriage protection, Thornbirds (LOL), etc.

If you're serious about making a highly lifted, super flexy Disco - go for it, but do it with a bit more thought than just giant springs and a body lift - Kent did one of the nicer jobs IMO in an extreme lift (http://www.discoweb.org/kentpollack/index.htm) - but you'd better have a big bank account or be a damn good/experienced fabricator - Kent did the work himself.

If you want a trail capable truck that may not have the bling, there are lots of routes to go - Rovertym is a good first call.

Thanks for all the help guys. I know that that rig might not be for you guys but I was just hoping to learn what parts would be needed to be at that height and still be a worthy DD. To be honest with you guys the Disco is the nicest vehicle I have ever owned and just cant bring myself to beat it up. My TJ is my trail rig and I dont mind so much scratching it up and bashing the rock sliders on boulders. Going from riding around on 37's to a stock Disco is a major difference. I want to lift the Disco up just so it's more comfortable to drive (all my previous jeeps have been lifted), right now it feels like a car. So thats why a want a big absoultely useless lift. Just so driving to school and work will be a little more enjoyable, I hope you guys understand where im coming from, I am not an idiot that just wants to cruise to mall, I do wheel a lot...just not in the disco. thanks

Hey David, remember it's YOUR rig. Build it however YOU want too!
I think the people here (myself included) just don't like rigs that are just for show. We have nothing against big lifts and nice paint, we just like them to still be able to wheel...I have a 'street' DII that I'm keeping pretty and I wheel my TReK (and TJ). But the Street DII still does get wheeled, too. It's been 20 years sense I had anything that didn't have a straight front axle and a two speed trans case and i've wheeled them all, otherwise its a waste of a great rig.
but still, it is yours, do what you want!

Just call RTE or NWP I am sure they will sell you all that you want. Springs, shocks, spacers, body lift and 37" tires should render your vehicle big and useless off road and arguably on road as well. You will lose caster and wander all over the road, but have at it. Don't forget the steps to get in. to do a lift like this right also takes front and rear double cardon drive shafts, axles, offset front radius arms, rear trailing links, likely re-drilling or new swivel balls, extended brake lines, all of the standard stuff, same as a Jeep.

You'll destroy bushings so have a set on hand too.

Just to name a few parts.

I hear you david. I am an ex jeeper and most jeeps work really well lifted they are also alot cheaper and easier to modify. I myself am going to lift my disco im just not sure how much I can get away with. With a jeep u can usually get away with a 33 inch tire and it will perform really good I think that if you were to go with a 3 to 4 inch lift on your disco and add the 33x9.5 tires you would be alright im not sure what you would have to do to the driveshaft angles thought check out rockwear.com. P.S the parts to modify your rover are going to be alot more expensive than your jeep.
