OK. The foam padding under the hood is falling down and second it just looks like crap. I know that its there to protect the hood from fading on the outside (at least i think that's what it's for). Removing it would be easy but that would also allow a lot of heat through. Any ideas on replacing it? I've tried everything to keep it from falling, but it basically dry rotted. Thanks.

Robin,

The padding can be replaced for around 60.00 or so. I just replaced one ina classic last week.

Very easy and DIY job.

Best of luck,

Will

Dynamat sells a real nice 'under hood' product that will work better than the stock version. I have not used it, but I have heard good things about it.

I believe the main purpose of the padding is for soundproofing, but I don't doubt that it plays that role as well.

One more question. Do you remove the hood or just apply it with it on? Thanks.

Its Land Rover Genuine Padding. Your dealer should have it. Leave the hood on or you are going to be spending the afternoon trying to line that thing back up...if you do end up removing it mark the spots good.

I made my girlfriend a blanket out of the old one... She did not like it much though..

Just remove it - you won't miss it + you'll benefit from lower underhood temps.

Another reason the insulation is there is to prevent the spread of fire. If your engine catches fire those plastic plugs melt and in theory the insulation falls down and smothers the fire. I don't know if it works or not but that is what the engineers tell me.
