I've looked in the archives and found lots of people asking the question, but no one with a real answer. I have a customer who is 6'7" and dying to get into an '04 Discovery. We need more legroom for this to work. I can't seem to find anyone in any body shop or any techs that know the answer. There are rumors of being able to get ?1"? without much fuss. Are these true? Has anyone done it? Anyone have any pics? How is it accomplished? There is a tech article about a manual seat Discovery I, has anyone tried this on a Series II with power seats? (Even if the forward/backward would be reversed)? Has anyone tried flipping the rails? The seat will go forward to within an inch of the steering wheel, but doesn't move back much. It seems to make sense to flip them, but is it logistically possible? What about the set screws? Can they be adjusted for any more room? Are there additional bolt holes anywhere that would let you scoot the rails back? If anyone has actual experience on any of these things, could you provide times? Detailed instructions? I'm looking forward to hearing any answers! Thanks all.

Alyssa: No I don't know the answer, but suggest that pulling all that plastic trim off the seat base will probably provide the answers you need. Please post the results of your investigation |

Alyssa, I don't have any direct experience with extending seat rails on D2s, but I know that there are shops that have fabricated seat rail extensions for other Rovers. East Coast Rover (ECR) has done it for Defenders. http://www.eastcoastrover.com/ Import Specialist in Paramus, NJ has done it for the previous generation Range Rover. (201) 493-8213 Perhaps one of these shops can help your customer. |

Sorry, but I don't have the authority to tell a tech to go pulling apart a brand new '04 just to look. ...and at an $80/hr internal rate, I need to know what I'm getting myself into. If it's a 2 day job, it's not really economically feasible. |

If I remember correctly, when I worked at LR Harrisburg we had a seat moved in a D2 for a customer. I think the vehicle went out to a special shop that specialized in this type of modification. Not sure though. I belive the sales guide who sold the D2 was Joe Lucas. Butch Cohen might know the details as well. They might be of some help if you give them a call. |

land rover dallas said they could have such a mod done at a 3rd party shop as well. i don't remember the price, but i do remember thinking it would have been cheaper to have had my legs shortened. if you come up short send me an e-mail and i will give you my sales guy's name. |

Suggestions not answers. How about calling LR direct? Solihull may have a tech answer. Call a specialty shop like a place that does handicap mods for paraplegics, wheel chair etc. Maybe fellow salesguides &/or techs have sold to NBA players and could lead you to mod shops and your answer. |

Ian, thank you! For anyone in the H'burg area, HaveCo, 717-558-4301 will move the seat back up to 5". Still no one in Philly, though. |
