Today I asked my service advisor about the procedure for trail fix when gear gets stuck in park position. (previous thread questioning this topic has been archived). He was kind enough to show me how to do it.

Remove the top of the gear shift (the bulb part that you enclose in your hand while shifting) It takes considerable force with an upward pull to remove it.

Remove the rectangular housing that enclosed the gear.

There is a little button visible that locks the gear in park. Now I can't remember if it is pushed in or released out when it's stuck?!!

Whichever position it is stuck at, manually bring it to the opposite position. That should fix it so you can just put it back together again and drive.

Pink arrow shows the button in the released out position.
Yellow arrow shows the button in the pushed in position.

Maybe a write-up for the Tech section, Jamie?

Wow...thats really easy on the D2's...you actually need to remove the entire console on the D1's to get at the solinoid.

Is the fix similar for a d1?

Jaime:

Sorry, but there's no button on a DI, AFAIK. The only way I know to do it is to disconnect the linkage from the shifter to the transmission, and manually shift it from park to drive while the ebrake is engaged. It's not fun having the front tire 4 inches from your head, but if you ebrake works, it beats walking:-)
