Hey everyone. I just put on my 2" lift on my 2000 D2 from Rovertym.(Picked them up in Midlothain, Steves a hell of a guy!)
Next I'm looking at tires. I have 255/75R16's on now, just not very aggressive. I'm looking to go up to 265/75R16's and would like suggestions for an inexpensive replacement.
I was thinking about the Dunlop Mud Rover. I've always had very good luck sith Dunlop tires and these are a good price for around $96 from the tire rack.
I was also considering the Yokohama Geolander A/T plus 2. I realize these are AT and not MT like the Dunlops.
Does anyone have any more suggestions or experiance with these tires?
TIA, Walter

Walter,

Yep the Rovertyme guys are incredible. Been up to their shop for my sliders and bumper. Great product and customer service.

There are a lot of folks here that will recommend Dunlop products as well as the Yokohama Geolander A/T plus 2 mentioned above. A friend of mine has "Mud King" tires and they seem to perform quite well. The one thing to think about before buying tires is, what are you really going to do with them?

One AT in particular I like is the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo. It's a great everyday tire that wears well and is not that loud at all. However, I do not recommend it for mud. FWIW, I am replacing my MTR's this week with BGF AT KO's. No they are not as agressive and cool as the MTR's, but realistically, I only go on about 9 trips a year.

Good Luck Walter.

Walter,

The Rovertym guys are terrific. I was at the shop last month for springs and a bumper.

Three of my favorite ATs are the BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO, Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo, and Toyo Open Country A/T. The Bridgestone and Toyo ATs probably won't do too well on mud, but are great daily driver tires.

I've had the Toyo A/Ts on my previous truck. They were good for over 60,000 miles and still had a decent amount of tread left when I replaced them. The Toyo's were good in rain, snow, slush, and average off-road.

As Paul said above, the main thing to think about before buying tires is what you plan to do with them. If your Disco is driven daily on a long commute, a MT might not be the best choice. If you plan on hitting the trails frequently (and your area has lots of mud), then a MT might be the better option.

I live about 11 miles from my job and the Disco is a daily driver.
I do plan on doing a moderate amount of off roading. Not necessarily mud, but I do want a good off road tire.
From reading the reviews on the tire rack the Dunlops look pretty good.
I can't say my experience with Yoko's have been as good.
I do know what type tire I want, I'd just like to know about everyone's experiance and suggsetions. I'm not going for a cool look. I'm going for all around performance. I'm just not sure the Yoko A/T's will do it for me.

BEst bet would go with MTRs or BFG MTs. With an AT you're entering the trail already at a disadvantage...with a "mild" MT, you'll be driving better on the road, which should complement your now modified truck.

The Dunlop Mud Rovers are very good tires for the price, there are a couple of people in our club that run them and have had very good experiences with them, they are great off-road. If you can afford them, check out the BFG MT/KM, I am running the 265/75/16 size on my 96 RR and have been pleasantly suprised on how quiet they are on the street, and they are simply awsome off-road. If you are on the fence on weather to get an AT or MT tire, I would get the MT tire and be done with it. You won't be disappointed with the increased traction you get off-road and on-road they are not as bad as one would think. On a budget, get the Dunlop Mud Rovers or Pep Boys Enforcer MT, if you can swing a little extra dollars have a look at the BFG MT/KM.
