Hi All - I saw these rubber "Snow Claws" chains & they looked interesting: http://www.flex-trax.com/site/521855/page/45031 Looking for a set to leave IN the truck for emergencies only. My one concern would be fast install. Any experience you could share regarding chains would be appreciated! -Eric |

I use these myself. Easy to install and work well. http://www.rudchain.com/snow/grip4.htm You can pick them up from Bill or Rachel Burke at http://www.bb4wa.com |

I got sucked into the Rud chain advert too - and I do actually like them - very easy to put on/take off and much better than the cable style chains I used to have which were actually harder to install. Bill |

Thanks guys - can you use these chains if you're already stuck? That is, do you need access to the entire tire to loop them around, or can you work them over the exposed part of the tire and have them supply traction as you crawl "into" or "over" them so to speak? |

You should put them on before getting stuck. However, you can install them without having to roll the tire. It is better to check the fit after rolling a few feet but it's not critical with these. |

The RUD chains are pricey (and I own a set of 4), and are the way to go for serious mud / snow use offroad. FWIW, If you just want a cheap set to keep in the truck you might need to decide if you want to spend the $$$, there certainly are lower priced sets of chains out there. |

Eric, you won't find any chains faster to mount than the RUD chains. When my fingers are freezing and knees wet with snow, I like chains that install in about 30-60 seconds. They also dig you out of snow/mud in a hurry. This is another example of getting what you pay for. Ray |

I have a set of your standard reinforced cross-bar type truck chains. Perhaps not as slick as the Rud chains, but very heavy duty (*much* heavier than the Rud style) and certainly add an order of magnitude to my available winter traction. I also noted that Costco was selling chains that look nearly identical in design to the Rud chains. You might take a look... |

I also carry a pair of plastic traction ramps to use when I'm stuck (hasn't happened yet) or there's just a short stretch of mud or slush to get through. |

These are very similar to the Rud chains. I've used them, and they're about as easy to use as any link chain gets: http://www.scc-chain.com/NewFiles/Seasonal%20Pages/Traction%20Products/ws_produc ts.html |
