Ok, I have searched the archives and I can't find it. I am sure someone has done it before and can help.

What is some good locations for an outside temp sensor location. The instructions on these things stink to say the least.

I thought about the door jam, but not sure if this will get a good reading.

Help, some opinions would be helpful....

Thanks in advance,

Joey

Hey Joey,

The door jam isn't the best place. I have an outside temp sensor located there and find that the temperature is always off by 5 - 10*C (warmer). I also have a temp sensor located inside the cabin as well and find I use that more often than the outside one. Door jams and locations similar to that are always going to be off because enough heat transfer from the cabin occurs to throw the readings off. I guess short of running the sensor to a location directly outside the vehicle (ie. on the roof), the outside temp will always be slightly off. In my own experiences, I've seen temp variations between actual and sensor of 10 - 15*C so I just stopped using it.

If you really want the outside temp, maybe try mounting the sensor to the very bottom of the door panel just above the plastic sill. That probably would give you a decent reading. It's far enough away from the cabin that heat from the cabin won't affect it too much...but it might damage the sensor if you go through water or mud or something.

I just gave up on mine. :-)

Joey,

Don't mount it anywhere under the vehicle, you will get heat from the exhaust altering the true ambient temp.

I have mine mounted currently on the bulkhead by the driver door hinge. I find that I get heat from the engine when standing still/travelling slowly, so I am going to relocate it also.

The only place I can think of to get it away from the vehicle is to mount it under the snorkel, in the shade, which is where it'll go.

I have changed locations on mine twice, it is kind of maddening!

where is the OEM external temp sensor located on the D2? It always seems to give pretty decent readings.

I'm told by the dealer the sensor on the DII is in the drivers side mirror. Anybody ever take one apart to see?

That would be a good location to put it (underside of mirror) for these Wayfinder sensors if you can route it there. Hmmm, think I'll have a look.

my thoughts are that a black mirror housing would absorb heat and give an incorrect reading. Maybe it is insulated/vented somehow. The underside might be good.

I have the WayFinder 6000 and i had the same problems. I finally found a great spot for the outside sensor. I have located mine beneath the front side of the bonnett lip on the drivers side. I now get the correct temp, well at least the same temp as the bank. Hope this helps

The only problem with the mirrors, is that they are heated at least on mine.

The mirror idea sounds good, I will have to look at that. I just picked up a Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer from Radio Shack....not bad little unit, plus it provides vehicle voltage if connected to a power source.
