I read Bill Gills article on converting your Rotoflex diff to U-Joint but I can't seem to remove this Centralizing Pin. I don't want to break anything.. Does anyone have an idea on how I should get this out?

i searched and didn't find anything...i'm sure its there. Can you attach a slidehammer to it and yank it out? This is a question and not a suggestion, I don't know and i've got to do it soon to my wifes Disco so i've got some interest, too.
Thanks,
Lewis

Weld a bolt to it, screw on a puller and hammer away! Make sure you secure it in a good vice, and don't bend the shaft.

I used a ton of PowerBlaster, heat and a slide hammer and mine still wouldn't budge. I used the axle puller attachment from the slide hammer on the pinion flange, used a long spring center bolt from my Toy (sorry forget size and tpi) w/ a couple of washers, tightened that down w/ a 2.5" pipe wrench through the center of the attachment into the centering peg, and it came right out.

If you don't have access to a slide hammer, you could make something similar with stout plate steel.

Good luck, I was about to burn my truck after fighting w/ that stoopid thing.

I cheated.

Dropped the rear prop shaft and drove down to the dealer in FWD. Service manager came out with the LR tool and popped the peg out for free.

(results not typical)

Now Shawn, where is the satisfaction in that? You didn't get to skin your knuckles, swear like a sailor, or drown your frustrations in liquor. You are not getting the full Land Rover experience, young Jedi.....

Good deal, Shawn. I too, drove in FWD to the Dealer. Nothing spells satisfaction like being dry raped for $85.

$85.00 Tom? That's like $3,649.12 CDN!!!

Of course we need to expect this as these are "Premium Brand" dealerships we're talking about.

Hope you at least got kissed...

Here is a picture of what I described above using the axle puller attachment w/ the long bolt through it:

I used a 2.5" pipe wrench on the bolt head (it is round), stoopid thing came right out.

Pretty amazing you got it out with that axle puller. The torque on the small center peg coming through transfering to pulling power is likely much less that the slide hammer attack.

Mine would not move at all with the rover tool, or a gadget like the axle thing, but came out with 3 whacks of a slide hammer.

A little judicious application of fire does wonders here, guys.

These appear to be installed originally with a little thread locker stuff. The heat will release that and a basic puller usu. pops the pin right out.

Nope. Been there done that. Depends on how much locker and how tight of a fit. Heat did nothing, that I could tell. You need the slide hammer to make it easy.

What Brian said.

Heat/cold/pulling with crowbar didnt help me.

Vise grip (big one) + sliding hammer from NAPA with full set of attachements + bolt (i think its 10x1.25 or something like that). Vise grip holds onto bolt. One of attachements could be screwed onto vise grip and then it takes couple hits to get damn thing out.
