Where can I get an emergecy cut off switch for a winch? I was thinkking about something to mount in the grill, inline with the power cable to kill the power to the winch if ever needed. I have seen them in Jegs and Summit, but is there anyone else who carries a product like this? |

interrupt kit by Warn. Most off road shops carry them. I have one on my TReK with the switch inside the cabin. It's a good safety option. You can mount the switch on the grill pretty easily, but you should use a waterproof military spec. switch instead of the one that comes with it.You could also just source the parts seperatly for a lot less money than the Warn kit cost. Make sure you use a silenoid with a high enough rating (not just a starter sileniod). Or you can just use a battery switch like those from Moroso and Jegs, Flaming River, etc.

That kit came with my xd9000i. I mounted the solenoid behind my battery and the switch under the ashtray. Works great and gives me some comfort when wheeling in deep water. any warn dealer should be able to get you the kit. I used to mount the switch next to the solenoid, but changed it after my a couple trips. |

thats where my solenoid is too. (thanks for the spelling~solednoid, I can't seem to spel anymore ) it fits great there. I have my switch under the coin holder, but will change to a better looking switch in a better looking place. It looks too 'added on' hanging down there. |

I put a solenoid on the power line for my winch, mounted right at the battery (under the drivers seat). I then remote mounted a switch for it under the bonnet. Help me to ensure that I'm the only one that can use my winch! |

Will, I purchased the BEP 720 Countour Heavy Duty Battery Switch (www.bep.co.nz/showproduct.cfm?productid=571) through Mike at www.aedofab.com. I followed his suggestion because he fabricated my battery tray and battery cables. At the time, this was the only cut off switch that he was comfortable with because it is rated at 550/700/2500 amps. Finding someone willing to install it has been quite a challenge (can't be done at dealership b/c the cables needed for it). Installing it has not been a major priority for me, but I plan to have it installed before I head west for sure. I'm interested in how anyone else has installed a cut off switch. I liked the idea of having it in the forward cabin - but my tech advised that it be installed under the hood because of it's size (it is big and also very bright colored - too bad it's not pink!!) When I was looking for a winch cut off switch the Blue Sea Systems 9000e Battery Switch and the Waytek Extra Heavy Duty Master Disconnect were also recommended. Since I went with Mike's suggestion of the BEP, I didn't do much research on these other suggestions. Good Luck, Jamie p.s. Lewis, I really like the looks of your Warn switch. You've got me wondering if Superwinch makes one too?? |

That BEP switch is a marine switch, for cutting off the batteries in a boat. Most decent boating stores will have something similar. Personally, I would like to find something a bit less bulky, though. - Axel

Has anyone heard of running the solenoid (remote for power switching) switching aspect off of a connecting circuit for the actual winch solenoid? I'm pretty sure this is how my truck came set up, because everytime I plug in the remote to the Warn solenoid up front, I hear a click from the power solenoid located under the driver's seat next to the battery. I have yet to actually check and see if it is wired this way, but even if it isn't, it seems like a slick way to do it. Power is only delivered the length of the hot cable when the remote is plugged in. You never have to remember to hit a switch that way. Just a thought. pwc |

That switch on the Recovery Gear site is only rated to 100amps - no good for a winch application. Bill |

Jamie, your winch won't know who makes the switch! I've already got it mounted so i'll keep it. But I will change the switch to something better looking. I like the way it works (like a big ol' relay) so the switch can be a smaller lighter duty piece. I think if I was doing it over i'd use one of the marine switches. I would try and mount it somewhere besides under the hood. Rather not lift the hood if I don't have too. And YES people I know about lifting the bonnet for safety and windshield protection.. |

Once my TJM bumper arrives....should be this week, I will be fitting my XD9000. Mine came with the Warn switch. I reckon a neat place would be to put it where, I am told, there used to be a dimmer thumb switch. See photo. Cheers all Jeremy (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) |
