I have a 1998 D1 with two sunroofs that has started leaking toward the top of the rear right hand door and middle of the rear passenger ac vents. I have checked the alpine window but the gaskets are okay. Could there be some blockage from the rear sunroof drains? Has anyone had this type of leakage problem or how to repair because I do not want the headliner start to midew possibly causing other problems such as rust or electrical. |

dean, i recently removed my factory roof rails (thanks, blue!) for fitment of an SD expedition rack. it may be coincidence but the bolt hole for the rail is rather close to that handle. check around the foot of the rail for signs of failure (in fact mine had been "patched" by the previous owner, unbeknownst to me). otherwise follow the intructions in tech, roofrails to lower your headliner. it will be easier to find the leak from the inside. cheers, carl |

Do a search under my name, there's some info there. The front and rear are designed exactly the same. The tubes that drain the rear follow below the alpine windows and down the rear fender/corner piece. If its leaking though, the drains are supposed to be a backup in the event water enters. I would very carefully inspect the rubber seal that seals the sunroof glass, the alightment of the sunroof glass, and possibly any misalignment with the rails casuing the glass to be misalligned. |

Dean, There's an article in the Tech section (http://www.discoweb.org/sunroofrails/index.htm) that might be of some help. I have found that the rubber seal will come out of the notch it sits in. This seems to be related to a combination of the rubber shrinking and the notch filling with dirt. Cleaning and re-seating the seal has fixed the problem for me a few times. Short of buying a new seal, I think that might be the only fix for my problems. Yours might be different. Victor |
