Have 94 Disco and 91RRC both having trouble with
opening doors.I have to pull out on the handles while pushing in on the doors to get them to
"pop". Any ideas?

There is a pull rod between the exterior handle and the latch. After removing the door panel, the link is vertical and has threads on the bottom end. If you pop the linkage at the top, you can rotate (shorten or tighten) the link a few turns. Also, now's a good time to lubricate all of the linkage.

Trevor, I'm having trouble locating what your talking about. I am on the rear pass door. Call me stupid but...

Can you explain a bit more?

Nope, I won't call you stupid. The concept is the same on front or rear doors, but on the rear, the linkage is much shorter. One end of the link attaches to the exterior handle, and the other end is threaded into a possibly brass device attached to a piece of linkage attached to the latch. The procedure is to unhook the linkage from the top, at the ext. handle, and rotate it (tighten) a turn or two. I would check the operation of the latch before refitting the door panel. Do you have any parts books or shop manuals?

Just be careful with this one. I had a Disco I with a drivers door that would barely open, even with a big tug on the handle. Pulled the door panel off and tightened the pull rod. After my door opened like a gem until the next morning....when it would not open at all, inside or outside. I had to pull the door panel off with the door shut and loosen the pull rod, what a pain. Just dont want to see this happen to you.

LAZY MECHANIC ALERT!!

A quick temporary fix for the sticky-door problem is to simply grease the striker plate with a bit of white lithium grease. It'll last a couple of months before it gets bad again. I've been putting off doing mine for 3 years with this trick.
