When I look around D1 goes up to 98, then D2 goes 99 and up. Is there any difference in the 98 and 99 D1? Second question how about the 95-96 shop service manual is there any real difference? Thanks Allen

Allen, The '99 D1 is essentially the left-over '98 D1s.... since they were the last D1s, they're often a bit more loaded, ie, they're the base SD model but they have leather seats, seat heaters, etc. The genuine LR Disco D1 manual says '95-'98, but would cover '94-'99 ( http://www.roverconnection.com/Plaza/rcwsmy5.htm ). Essentially, '94-95 was the 3.9 OBD-I engine with a distributor, whereas the '96-on is the 4.0 distributorless OBD-II engine. -L

Allen, I used the above-link just because I happened to have had their page open looking for something else; you can usually find that manual for less elsewhere, though that's not a bad price, per se. Are you sure that the manual was for '95-'96, and was genuine? The only one I'm familiar with is the " '95-'98 " version. Anyway, if you get your hands on it, and can look at it, and it covers the '96 4.0 OBD-II version, then it would work for you for most everything. There are some minor differences along the way from '96 to '99, but they're small compared to the difference between '95 and '96. Thing is, if it's THAT good a price, and it doesn't work for you, then turn around and sell it off and get the other.... FWIW.... -L
