I have a 95 disco and was wondering..Are there 2 solinoids one for the gear box adn one for the T-case, and will the t-case one only work if the gear box one is functioning properly? Why do I ask you ask? I took the gear box solonoid out and cut the little pin, since I was stuck in park, now I cant shift the T-case from hi to low.

Yes -there are two. The one for the shifter is mounted inside the shifter housing and the one of the Tcase is mounted in a housing with 4-bolts on top of the case. This one you can just remove entirely - no need to cut off the pin. Bill |

No pics - sorry Yes, you can access it from top after console, shifter, etc, etc are removed. It's a pain in the ass because it is way back on the right and takes an interesing combination of 1/4" drive universals to get all 4 bolts out that hold the housing on. Doesn't help that the threads are always gooped up with form-a-gasket and you have to drive the bolts all the way out (and they are ridiuclously long for what their purpose is!). Disconnect electrical connector and pull out solenoid entirely, then reseal the housing with RTV. Bill |

Does the Defender with the 3.9 have similar electronics? |

This applies to all with automatic transmissions - manual trans LT230's do not have the solenoid. It's a good idea to just disable/remove both so they don't leave you stuck somewhere - IMO anyway. Bill |

One last question. Can you get to the solenoid thru the T-case shifter, or do I have to take out the auto shifter as well? thanks in advance |
