I need to know if the Alarm ECM has any other function other than a "controller" for the alarm. My questions stems from a disagreement I am having with my "auto warranty" company. The documentation states under the "covered items" area that the OEM alarm is included in the warranty but later in the document it states that "computers" are not included. The warranty company says that Disco's "Alarm ECM" is a computer and handles more duties than just the alarm and therefore it is NOT covered. If indeed it ONLY handled the alarm it WOULD be covered. Anyone familiar with this ECM and what it controls? Know where I can find more info? Thanks in advance.........DREW

Not sure if it handles more duties, but it does interface with the engine ECU to prevent teh truck from starting. This is for the GEMS systems anyway. Bill |

Any documentation of this or is it just known? And as a sidebar....Over the course of 18 months I have replaced (2) altenaters, (1) brake light switch, (1) cruise brake vent switch,(1) window ECU and most recently the Alarm ECM. There must be something causing these electrical failures. Could all these be related? The dealer doesn't seem to think so. They just shrug thier shoulder and say, "Well, it is a '95........" Drew

Andrew, I think the Haynes Manual will bear out what Alyssa said. All connections to the unit, from what I can see, are related to things that happen when you activate the alarm: - Doors lock - Lights Flash - It looks at the door contacts to see if the door is opened - Cuts the engine off Regarding all the failures, I would check out the connectors, ground connections, and battery. Intermittent or high resistance connections on the power and/or ground could cause spikes and transients that could dammage these components. Also cells in the battery can become detached with age or vibration and cause intermittent problems with similar results. Victor |

I agree with Victor......check grounds. You would be suprised at how many issues can be fixed by a good ground. Also Sent you an email to you profiles email address with some info on the Factory alarm system in the Disco |
