Does anyone have any information regarding NHTSA Technical Service Bulletin No. 031201, Oil Pump Failures for 2003 Discovery?

Mine failed on my 6000 mile Disco which has led to it getting a new engine. It is at the dealership as I write this

I've only had my Discovery for 2 weeks and this is a big blow in hurting my confidence in my truck...

TSB is issued by Manufacturer and the number doesn't match NTHSA system. Ask dealer for a copy and post it.

Rommel I called the dealership and they said the fix for the failure is to replace the engine when one fails. Very comforting mine is in the vin range of effected vehicles. I said why dont you change the oil pump now instead of waiting to see. LR isnt doing that way they tell me???
So how hard is it to replace the oil pump anyway? Could be some good preventitive maintenance.

The oil pump will just fail again. The fix is to replace the engine. It isn't every truck in the vin range. Just a select few.
Your getting a brand new engine. New is better than old.

The reason for engine replacement is that the blocks were either cast or machined wrong. I have had two blocks side by side and the one with the oil pump failure had a lower timing cover to block surface. I also had one that leaked coolant out of the intake manifold gasket on the RH front because the intake was not sealing properly due to machining errors. The scary part is the block had "reline" written across the front of it below the LH cylinder head.

How does that saying go? "BEST 4X4 BY FAR".Time for a change,42 year old engine design is just a bit outdated. My entry for the LR suggestion box is leave the body and suspension design alone(I know too late,I can dream can't I) change the engine choice and make the drivetrain stronger . Get rid of the exploding axles and whining T-cases , throw in a modern v-8 or proven diesel and you got yourself a cool rig.
