unfortunately, im in a money pinch, so i am thinking of getting out of my 2k DII, but I cant bare to be without a disco, so I was thinking of going to a older DI. I own my DII, so I can trade it in and receive a cash back for the remaining value of my DII, witch would be perfect.

but honestly, DI's make me nervous, they just seem to have serious quality issues.

would I be making a serious mistake by getting into a DI? or will it actually be better since it is older, it is easier and cheaper to care for?

any ideas?

and yes, i will be modifying the DI if I do this.

BTW, my DII is near perfect condition, and mechanically perfect, not a flaw anywhere, and its kent green, my fav green by rover

any ideas?

If you own it and like it, why not keep it? Maintenance couldn't be that much cheaper on a DI and you may have to replace a lot of things that have just worn out due to age.

LOL

...and the D2s don't?

It's been seen over and over, these things need a lot more attention (vs other cars or trucks) to keep them going - especially if you wheel them. As far as build quality is concerned, these are hand assembled in Solihull so it's dependant if the builder was hung over from the pub from the night before or he got laid by a good looking blonde.LOL

Seriously though, you really can't tell, some people never had problems with their 94 or 95 D1s while others do. Some people (like me) never had any build quality issue with 99D1s but others do. You get my drift... Bottom line is do your research, take it to a qualified LR tech to give it a once over, and if you have the option, get a warranty. Goodluck!

keep it....if your going to be modifying the DI your not going to be having more money in your pocket. If you love it, your just going to kick yourself later for selling it (ask me how I know:-) ) maybe you could get a loan against the title of the DII to help out for now.
...and trading it in, I doubt if you would get much cash back from a car lot. You would be much better off selling it yourself and then purchasing another.

Trade you. Just kidding.
I would like to get into a D2, 2004 preferably. But I have money issues as well. My friends keep telling me to sell and get something cheaper to operate.
That's silly. I have two reasons to keep my D1.One, it's paid for. Two, it's still under warranty. It would be illogical to sell it and end up with a mechanical money pit.
Keep your D2. Things will get better.
If you have to. Do what I have been doing. Park it and ride the bus.
Can't ride the bike because I dropped insurance on it to cut cost. It's paid for as well fortunately.
P.S. I sometimes regret not waiting the extra 4 months for the 99 D2 to come out.

I use to own a 94 Disco which never give me any problem until I shortchange the scheduled maintenance and cheaper unskilled mechanic. I use to be in the USN and being an enlisted personnel I cannot afford to take it to the dealer or cannot find a trustworhty mechanic in San Diego. My wife told me told just sell it and find an economical car but I love the Disco so until now I still have it and replaced the short block and bought another DII. I guess money will always be an issue with the D1/DII but it's a lot safer driving in the busy highway of SoCal.
