I just went to pick up my DII from service yesterday and got to talking to the salesman that sold it to me. He had justed talked to a company rep that was there. It seems that the new "DIII" for 2005 will replace our beloved Discovery. He said it will have a V6 and have the same kindof suspension set up the Freelander does. Discovery will not be made anymore. The new truck will have a different name, oh and start at $40K. While this is from the dealer, I wonder if that is right. Thank god I already bought a DII.

You know what else? I heard Babe Ruth just signed with the Yankees. I can't believe Boston let him go! I bet they'll regret it...

Jarrod, if you search the archives, you'll find several interesting threads on the 2005 Discovery, with links and photos.

On the link, there are some very good, recent pic's of the DIII. It struck me as more of a Krautisher Gelandewagon rather than a Scion or whatever Japanese lump everyone was comparing it to.
I thought the V-6 was a diesel, and Ford is working with the PAG gang and Peugeot/Renault(don't know about Citroen) to develop a new diesel that will leap-frog the current generation of diesels in a variety of ways. One is weight - the new diesel block is made by compressing and heating the "powder" to a solid, it will weigh almost the same as a similar gas engine block.
If the off-road capability is same as new RR, I'd seriously look.

 Hi,

I'm a bit perplexed about their complete desertion of the Discovery style. They seem to be looking at the Honda products for styling.

The interior, although only a prototype, looks way too cheap for the price point. It looks like a Chrysler product: all the right bits in the right place, but using the cheapest plastic they could find.

They didn't totally abandon the Discovery style. They still have the asymmetrical rear window.

after looking at the photos, I am going backwards and get an old series, who is designing these things? My wife even said it looks like every other suv on the road.

There certainly is a diesel but not for USA yet. Its the new 2.7 liter v6 designed and built by Ford and Peugeot, debuting in the Jag X type. Look at the Jag/lincoln V6 and perhaps V8 for the other engines.
Wheelbase about 104 or 5 inches...and shared with the 4dr RR sport (or whatever they decide to call it) seven seats, interior looks like an expedition, Ugly tailgate IMHO.

um...I like 'em. Haven't seen one in the flesh,of course, but they're still a Rover (I hope and not a ford) and I like the RR style. We don't get the Defender her so the Rangie is the Image vehicle. I understand the tye in with the styling. I'm not going to be trading in my DII's but i'll give 'em the 'Rover Wave'!
