The idle on the '96 Disco has gotten truly erratic. One day, it idles fine, the next day, it can't get out of its own way. Stepper motor and port has been cleaned (several times) but the cuttin' out at idle persists - every other time I start the vehicle. Temperature (hot v. cold) or wet v. dry seems irrelavent. It's just every other time. Weird...and it hasn't thrown a trouble code yet. The OBD II scanner (Car Code) sez it's all good....

Anyway, I bought a NAPA/Eichlin #2-1856 a while back, as NAPA actually listed that as the propper one for the 4.0 engine. WRONG. The little piston or plunger is too large to fit into the port, although the rest of the unit looks identical.

I've searched the archives and though I've found a lot of references to IACV's for the 3.9, I haven't found a (valid) reference for the 4.0. The dealer wants $285...NAPA only $56, but then it didn't fit.

Anyone have a crossover number?

Cheers

I went the NAPA Route, IAC did not work well. I know it costs but I got better performance from the Land Rover part. Try Atlantic British (www.roverparts.com) might be cheaper than the dealer. I have a 95 disco with 80,000

Thanks, Mike.

Anyone want a good deal on a unused NAPA stepper motor?

Maybe I'll take the dremel to it and see if'n I can *make* it fit....

Cheers
