Ok here is the deal...

Christmas is here. I can't think of anything that I need besides things for my car. I am eventually going to put an ARB on the front but not right now. I don't like the factory guards but the A-bar looks okay. Is there any other alternative besides replacing the front bumper for a 2003 Disco? I need sliders but want to purchase them myself. Any and all suggestions of what to get for a totally stock truck will be welcome. I am just overwhelmed and do not know where to start. I am in Georgia, any close vendors or internet vendor suggestions will be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance,

Hill

How about diff guards? I'd say that should be one of the first things you put on your truck.

Until you get a winch bumper, maybe some front recovery points, like JATE rings unless there's already something there.

Diff guards are a good idea. You might consider better tires as well.

It depends on what you will do with your truck.
If you will be going off road a lot, go with protection, recovery and traction improvements.
If you are spending a lot of time at the mall, you need a snorkel, roof rack and fog lights.

add some recovery gear to use with your new recovery points. then you can tow people out of snowbanks at the mall...or on the trail!

of, how about a few dweb videos.
cheers,
carl

Maybe hook up with some of the SOLAROS guys and see what they think.

Always helps to see stuff installed on someone else's truck first to see what you really like or want.

Thanks for the info...

Spend as little time possible at the mall. I go off-road a moderate amount. Hopefully I will be able to go more where done with my Masters next Christmas.

As far as tires I think the 18 inch rims kind of limit me in that department. I know that BFG all terrian makes 285/75 for my rims. I think that would take a major lift. From my short converstaion with my dealer, they think I should wait until after warranty for that. I did see some GY AT/S's the other day that were 275's I believe. I guess I would need a lift for those as well. Don't know?
I know, I know, I should just get some 16's!

Thanks again,
Any additional comments would be more than welcome,
Hill

Hill,

I would think that given the premium that is charged for 18" tires, with the difference you could get some 16" rims and have a much better selection of tires to choose from.

Hill,

If you're worried about lifts, tire size availability, warranty, etc maybe just wheel the truck with the tires you currently have an see if they satisfy your current needs. I've seen stock D2's with factory rims and tires do quite well for most light/moderate type stuff. Your only big "wheel" concern would be damaging those nice rims. I'd say start off with some basic guards and recovery equipement and wheel with some others and see how things go. That way you'll discover the progression of mods you need for your particular level/taste of off-roading.

Waterproof seat covers and rubber floormats, ESPECIALLY if you will be near mud. Merry Christmas :-)

What do you guys think about sliders from rvrtym? I really would like to get some input on what sliders you think are the best. I really think that this and other suggestions would be a good start for me.

Another question is do I need to put a lift on if I replace my tires any bigger than the 255's for 18's.

Thanks for help,
Hill

Hill,

All indications seem to be that the rvrtym sliders are pretty good.

Somone I know has a similar style slider, and raves about how the extension out the side has saved him many times from damage that other style slider wouldn't have.

But some prefer the style that looks like the original plastic. Less functional, but still much better than nothing.

What diff guards do people suggest?
I looked at the ones on Safari Gard, but couldn't seem to find any on other sights. Any insight on this of subjects above will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Merry Christmas!

I'm completely biased towards southdown's steering and axle protection.
Rovers North sells them
www.southdownusa.com
I've watched a stock 03 off road in NE and been amazed at the easy it accomplished everything we did that day. GA red clay mud is another matter completely....

I know its the new fad to have big rims but remember folks BIG side wall are you friends off road. But the big rims will look good outside the food court at the mall. Maybe gold ones...
