I have a friend trying to hookup some some reverse lights on his D1.. Can anyone give their .02 on how this should be done? Run through the tailamps, to the transmission, etc... Entry points and what not...

Thanks...

on the D1 there is an extra wire behind the right rear tail light. you know behind the access panel inside. the wire i believe is purple with a green stipe for aux back up lamps the wire will have a lil red plug in the end. there is also another wire in there for aux power.you could run the wire into that area by going through one of the body grommets located on the floor in that same area. that should do it

Jason,

I would splice into one of the factory reverse lights and power a relay that would switch power to the new reverse lights.

In effect, it would be like wiring up a set of fog lights, but rather than having some power sent to a switch and then to a relay, just power the relay off the reverse lights.

Hope this helps
Victor

I don't know what type of $$$ your friend wants to spend but IPF makes a great back-up lamp. Atlantic British sells it for $85 but I'm sure you can find it much cheaper somewhere else.
It comes with a 3-way switch (off/ on/ on in reverse) and a very, very easy wiring harness that splices into wire behind the right rear tail light David mentioned above. I installed mine in a couple hours and I am an electrical idiot.
Like I said, you might pay a little more but it is a great light and easy for any one to install themselves
