Just need some advice on my 94 Disco that suddenly lose power while driving. I have to park the car but started again after few seconds. I just replaced the short block with rebuild heads, installed oil pump, engine front cover, left and right exhaust manifold, lifters, and also flush the radiator and replace the rod. The Disco runs like a champ. It just happen twice now first I was driving on the freeway and second when stopping on a red light. What seems to be cause of losing power? Is it the alternator?

Check the stepper motor connection.

Yureg

a more in depth description of lose of power would help.

is it like a on/off switch or does it bog and stay bogged down till it is shut down and restarted?

does it die alltogather?...that would be the stepper motor

but a very fast intermitant on/off may be VSS

Good point Thom...I beleive the vss is more at high speeds...sounds like from his first description it is when coming to a stop. This is where the poor connection at the stepper motor could cause some issues.

The VSS issues I have experienced or seen have been in the 50plus mph range and people absolutely freak. I guess I would as well.

Thom and Will,

It just die altogether and I would wait for few seconds to start the engine, luckily when I was in Los Angeles I-91 freeway I was able to get to the shoulder right away. I will check the VSS and stepper motor.

Appreciate all you inputs. Have a joyous holiday; Merry Christmas and Blessed new year.

I frequently have the (factory) spark plug wires loosen from the distributor cap. Seems to happen every three months or so. Might give it a check.

Yureg, I had the exact same problems. Took it to the dealer several times and they could find nothing wrong. It would never do it when they drove it. It was finally diagnosed as the fuel pump. Replaced it and it has never happened again.

It doesnt sound like it could cause your problem, but my Disco would loose power while driving, or sometimes not start at all right after I bought it. It took me a few hours of looking around the engine to discover my power cables were heavily corroded and would not allow enough consistant power to power the motor. Just something to look into.

could also be the amp module. These tend to cut out when they get hot. Mine did the same thing but it was worse at stop lights. Also check the cap for cracks on the inside and check the connections to the amp module. You could check fuel pressure to rule out the pump. Gordo.
