I love my new truck, don't get me wrong, but I have to kind of laugh at having problems with my disco along the lines of what I have been reading about for the past ten months!

1. The parking break light flickers off and on all the time. No apperent reason?

2. This morning my turn signals would not work until the truck warm up. It was -8 celceius. Seemed to work fine after that. Anyone???

3. The pasenger seat does not go back and forth put moves in all other directions. (power seats)

4. The driver seat does not heat up very much or at all?? Passenger seat seems to heat up fine.

I took it into some mud and ice today I thought I was stuck then...the truck pulled itself right out. I am still grining from ear to ear! I love it in spite of the little things that I knew where going to go wrong with it.

Any advice on the above will really be appreciated.

John

well, it IS a Rover:-)
You get to spend some quality time with them sorting out all kind of wierd things (as you now know).
I have no advice that would be of any good. I've noticed that a lot of these little things will have two or more answers...sometimes one of them will work for me, sometimes I get to discover new ones. You WILL learn to enjoy tinkering with your rig...it's kind of a Zen thing, take your time and enjoy yourself.
Happy Trails:-)

1. You are low on brake fluid.

2-4 British electrics. The prince of Darkness strikes again.

3. Mine did that for a couple of years but for some reason has stopped. It would happen if the seat was moved all the way back. I would unstick it by putting a little pressure (up or down) on the "screw" under the seat while pushing the button to move the seat forward. I would do this by sitting in the back seat and putting my foot on the screw while reaching for the controls on the console. The screw is the long one the motor uses to move the seat. If you pop your head under the seat from the back you'll see what I'm talking about. I think there may have been a TSB to fix this but I don't know for sure. There have been so many. :-)

This is probably one of the few times where developing a relationship with your vehicle won't be a bad thing.

I agree with Axel. My brake light flashed on/off when I went off roading because the brake fluid was low.

Congrats on the new purchase. Go up in the hills and enjoy. :-)

Caveat: often, when your brake fluid is low, it is bacause your pads have worn enough to the point that the fluid level has dropped as the pistons are further extended. Might want to check to see how much meat is on those brake pads.... Before I realized such, I just topped off the reservoir when the light flickered, thinking it was a neat trick to know: didn't occur to me, ya know, brake systems *shouldn't* be leaking, so, why is it low in the first place?

Now, it could very well be that you are just a bit low, and topping it off is dandy. But in my case, where I topped it off then discovered that the pads were worn, when I changed the pads, on compressing the pistons I had fluid running out the top of the reservoir and down over the engine bay....

FWIW....

The Brake fluid worked great! Light is now off. I will get the brakes inspected to make sure the pads are not down to nothing.

I thought I would let you all know that I got flaged over by another Disco owner today he had some flashing lights, speed mode and sport mode at the same time, he was asking my opinion... said he only had Disco for two weeks and wonder if I knew why, I told him I only had mine three days but gave him the website address. At least I am not the only one with problems!

Since you bought your Rover used, I would define your "problems" as typical new used car stuff. One could argue that you could of seen this stuff before you bought it, but hey for a couple of bucks you'll be all tickety-boo and know a bit more about the vehicle.

Plus with Ontario winter temps., at least you can work out the bugs before it really gets cold. But it really doesn't get cold in Brampton, does it; try coming up to North Bay and running it thru its paces. I bought my '93 RRC last winter right before we had those -40C days. The fact that she came thru with flying colours (other than a few sticking locks, switches, etc.) gave me complete confidence in the old girl.

I didn't see any suggested solutions for the turn signals not working when it was cold. I've got a '99 with the same issue. It happens at about the same point, if I remember right it was when it is less than 20F. You suppose just replacing the turn signal relay would cure it?

Thanks.

John,

I just noticed you're in Brampton, the home of one of the better independent Land Rover shops, Discotech (http://www.discotech4x4.com, 29 Strathearn, Unit 5, Phone 905-792-0033).

Gilles used to work for Land Rover and prior to that he was in the Canadian Forces. An alround good guy.

Tell him I sent you.

John,
If you bought it certified preowned from a dealer, they will fix all those problems. They let me have about a month to sort all that out and they fixed them free of charge.

The seat can be repaired under warrenty. The dealer will put in shims to keep it from binding and all will be well. Had the same prob with mine and got it fixed no prob.
