I need to replace my battery in my 98 Disco, and figured why not upgrade when I can. But is there a specific Optima Yellow Top Battery, that I should use?? Thanks for the help.

I think you just get to choose the type (red, blue, yellow) then one size fits all. Do you plan on getting a winch, or are you running crazy lights and stereo etc? If so, you would benefit from the yellow. If not, get the red. If you go with the yellow, check the draw of the accessories you connect to make sure you have enough run time. May need 2 for high amp applications. I'm using the red as I have no aftermarket accessories that would require the deep cycle.

Noe they are telling me, there are different model of the Yellow top, and since they don't have a listing for Discovery's they can't tell me which one will work.

It don't really matter, they are all 12 volt batteries. Just get one that is about the same dimensions as your original battery so it will fit in your battery tray.

there are 5 yellow top models.
1 of them is 6V
the other 2 are not avaliable yet.
So u have to choose between the D34 yellow top and the D34/78 yellow top.
The difference between them is that D34/78 has 2 more points for connecting the wires of the car in front side.
Go with what is avaliable there.

I think there are different CCA ratings. I checked into them here and you can get them in 750 CCA or 950 CCA so hence the possibilty of different yellow tops. I'd say go with a 750. The 950 is a bit bigger so may not fit without modifying the battery tray.

There is a 6 volt yellow top? Didn't know that. Then I'll rephrase my statement to:

"It don't really matter, as long as you pick a 12 volt model" :-)

Optima Deep Cycle UPC# 8-114505-00045-4. Go to your local discount auto parts store for the cheapest price. The bigger stores seem to have at least one in stock (you might want to check the date to see how long it has been sitting on the shelf). Here it can be purchased here for about $150 + tax.

Good Luck, Jamie

I just went and out popped my hood. One of mine says CCA 650 and the other says CCA 750. Both batteries are the same physical size (at least as far as I can tell) and they both have the same UPC#.
