Guys. I want to add some Jate rings to my D2, but all the mounting holes are taken up with towbars and winch mounts etc

What I want to know is is it possible for me to drill some new mount holes a sensible distance from the originals and mount the jates in these or will this weaken the rails ?

if your not into the crush zone, you will need to add some sleaves. (weld in a metal tube so the frame stays strong, holes will weakin it to some degree)

Or continue to go back until you find an open mounting holes. I had a similar problem with my D2 with the brush guard and skid plates up front. On the right hand side about 1/3 of the way back (maybe a little more), I found an open slot on the frame where I attached mine.

Thanks guys, welding a tube/sleeve in seems to be the way to go

On a similar vein, at the front of the D2 there is a tube that hangs down to support the very bottom of the bumper valance and attaches behind the crush cans to the same mounts as the winch plate and the crush cans themselves. Does anyone know if this tube has any roll other than supporting the bottom edge of the valence (in which case it can come off (along with the bottom of the valence) for some more approach angle)

it's called the "protection bar" by LR. supposedly to protect the steering damper and act like a skid plate.
