I finally found the problem why I never heard the warning when I left my lights on when I opened the door. Also when I opened the door the interior light would not come on. When I removed that door switch which works when you open or close the front door I found the wire has broken loose. Well I cant find the wire and dont know how to get into that area to try and find it. I have a 97 D1. Any suggestions.. Thanks

You should be able to remove the kick panel (by your feet) and get into the backside of the door frame that way. Bill |

I tried that but with all the fuses there I did not see a way in, If I knew where the wire ran I would just run a new one.

Darryll, Were you checking behind the fuse access panel or the kick panel? The kick panel which is the plastic panel by your feet that is on the side - pull out the fasteners holding that in (2 or 3) and then slide it out - you will then see all the extra crap they didn't have room to stick behind the dash - relays, etc and from there you should be able to acess the backside of the door frame. Going from memory alone here, but I think there is a wire bundle going through a grommet in the inner skin ends up the inner door frame. Failing that - try taking the switch out and then with a bent wire or coat hanger, "fish" for the lost wire - tedious, but you may get it that way. Bill Bill |

Bill Thanks for the info, I had that kick panel off and saw all that crap. There is one bundle of wires going into the door, about 10 if I remember, but I am not sure if any of them is the one I am looking for. I have the switch out and have tried more that once to fish it out but no luck. I even tried a piece of duck-tape on the end of a screw driver trying to get it stuck but it also did not work. I am going to have a look inside the hood to see if I find a hole to get to the wire. Darryll

I used a piece of wire (12 GA house wire). Bent a loop in it and worked with a flashlight. Took about a hour. |

Well I managed to get that wire out, it is a real B with a ITCH to get out and fix. While I was digging for it I saw a clear plastic tube inside. Any ideas what that is for??
