I am thinking about buying some OME springs (751 front and 781 Rear with one inch spacers, like the dark silver one on the OME springs page on Expedition Exchange). Is it possible to use the stock shocks at least for a little while with this setup. I want to get the lift, but I am needing some new tires to go under my disco as well, and I don't think I can swing the cost of Springs, Shocks, and tires right now.

Also, in the T17 TJM bumper is thier a place for the high lift Jacks? I saw that there was on the T15's but I didn't see a place on the T17's. Thanks!

Its only time and wear, but I would recommend that you get the front shocks when you do the springs since it is necessary to remove the front spring to install the shock. Ideally you should do the shocks and springs as an entire set though. Doing them all wtih new tires would enable you to take advantage of the lift (but the springs is what really gives you the lift).

Does it make the rear look like it is sagging if I just do the front shocks right now? My suspension seems to be fine right now with no sagging.

Also, I am pretty mechanically inclined and I have access to a lift, is it hard to install new springs on Disco's?

lift springs with stock shocks will cause the shocks to top out and cause a bang every time you hit a bump and the suspension recoils. after a while the top of the shock might just tear off.

or if they are stock length Bilsteins the bottom stud will snap off.

Thom, Wouldn't the stock shock (when used with taller springs) bottom out rather than top out?

No it shouldnt bottom, as the bumpstops are not changed. It would top because the springs need shocks with a longer stroke. If you think about the shocks as only have about 8" of travel, then that gives you four up and four down. If you put the springs on, all of the sudden you will have 6 up and only 2 down. So if you were to say go over a railroad track at speed and the front end rose, it could only do so 2 inches, and would tug on the shocks for more travel....which would not be had. You could have some limiting straps, but I would not recommend. Truthfully, I would get the shocks and springs and wait on the tires for a bit, but you could run the stock shocks for a bit too. Also, since you have a D2, the front springs do not have to be removed to be changed (as Brian commented ...this is only on a D1). So that is not a concern.

Do the stock 255/65-16 inch tires look good with the OME lift? If they do then I will go ahead and get the shocks and springs...

Do you know of any trucks setup like this that have some pics? Thanks!

Who has the best prices on OME springs and shocks online?

Does anybody know any 4X4 shops in the D/FW area that carries them?

Jordan, I think the tires will look a a little small, but not too bad if it is just for a short amount of time, I would go ahead and get the shocks and wait on tires. Really you could use the factory shocks and get new tires, but I think this would be putting form over function and could have negative results. Tennessee Off Road has the best prices I know of. (www.tennesseeoffroad.com) I would request a matched pair, but some people prefer the seperates.

just add lower rear shock mounts and run the stock rear shocks. A lot of people do this.
Check with the TexasRover club site to find DFW shops.

Jordan, I just got OME HD springs and BF Goodrich mud terrains. (265/75)

The tires fit well and it looks great. However I did not get new shocks. I'm planning on it in the near future though. For now, its great. The ride is so much better and it looks fantastic. I did some minor roading and didn't notice any problems.

Good luck dood.
Merry Christmas

They topped out but its cause I hit a pretty large rut going a little too fast. Like I said, for now, it's all good but I am planning on getting new shocks in the future. Also, I haven't trimmed my fender yet either. Haven't noticed any problems with that either... I probably need to though but no problems yet.

I went with 265/75's and love 'em.

You are gonna love your truck so much more when you lift it. A lot of people complain about power loss when going to bigger tires, I haven't noticed any difference. My disco was slow then and is slow now. Feels the same to me. Turning seems to be a bunch easier too, however the radius is still shit.

Jordan - as far as difficulty check the tech section on this site and on expeditionexchange.com. Between the 2 directions my brother and I were able to do it with a floor jack, stands, and a bottle jack this past summer in about 6 1/2 hours. My '97 had about 101K on it at the time and I live in the northeast which caused some issues with the original bolts - one front one broke and then had to be torched and drilled to get off, and the stud thread on one of the rear stripped & needed retapping. Also some of the lug nuts required a breaker bar and both of us cursing but thats another story.

Also I thought the OEM's were Woodheads not Bilsteins - Am I correct??

Great, please post you pics tomorrow if you can. Texas rovers site is down, so I am going to try and find a place that carries OME tommorrow as well as see who has the best price on Mud terrains around here.

Thanks for the info on the install, I'll check out the tech section!:-)

With OME springs, the price difference between the various vendors are not that much, so I would recommend that you get them from a vendor with good service, who knows Rovers, and who will work with you on your suspension plans, whether you get it all at the same time, or do it in stages. Give John at EE a call, he will also match the springs for you if required, so that you don't end up with the typical Rover lean.

- Axel

Well, I got my tires on today and am going to get the springs ordered from EE tomorrow. No rubbing whatsoever on my disco2 with stock suspension (265/75/16 M/T's). Man I like these! These trucks look great with a good Mud Terrain tire! Thanks again guys!:-)
