Jess,

I've got the Superwinch X9, using it with the stock roller fairlead (I have an aluminum hawse, but I'm sticking with the fairlead). Replaced wire cable with 100ft synthetic line (there are 2 sizes, I got the bigger size line, I forget diameter of it), 50 ft externsion of the same line, and replaced stock hook with a (spring loaded) mouse-clip style hook.

I got mine because that is what Bill Burke told me to get. He used SuperWinch in Camel Trophy and still uses Superwinch. Purchased at Summitt Racing at John Lee's suggestion. At the time, Summitt had the lowest price and free shipping.

One of the reasons it was recommended to me is because it is supposed to handle water submersion better than other brands, and I have lots of water here.

Works great have not had a problem with it. Easy to use so far. I'm very happy with it. I like the way it is mounted b/c I can reach in to disengage clutch while also see what I am doing. I have the TJM winch bumper and the channels are nice and big to see winch line respooling.

Since most of my recoveries are from mud, I use tree strap and pulley block to decrease load whenever possible. I actually prefer recovering with my winch rather than attempting snatch strap recovery with rear receiver shackle.

The only thing I might change is going to the heavy duty controller. I've closed mine in my window several times.

I've heard that superwinch parts are not as easy to get as warn parts for repairs - but, I don't know if that is true or not.

Hope that helps, Jamie

Jess,

The guys from Expedition Exchange have a very positive opinion of the Superwinch products.

They look at a couple of competing products and the Superwich line on the page for their trip to SEMA 2003 (http://www.expeditionexchange.com/sema2003/)

Victor,

Thanks for posting the EE link to SEMA 2003. Just finished reading it - that was neat! :-)
