My front drivers side tire is leaking at a consistent rate of 2-3 psi every 48 hours. It's not a big problem - but it is somewhat annoying. I make sure I measure pressure and fill it every few days. This has been going on for about 3 weeks. Last month, I had a flat on this same tire after being in the forest. We broke it down, cleaned out the dirt, and put tire back on without incident. Any ideas of what could be causing the slow leak? Also, do you have any suggestions on how I can locate a tire shop in my area that knows anything about mud radials? I have stopped at a few of the tire shops in the area and they said the don't do anything with big tires (whatever that means?) and they don't know anyone who does. Thanks, Jamie |

Replace the valve stem with your spare tire stem. Or, it could be that the rim has some debree between the tire and rim. I'm guessing you have checked for a hole in the tread. Or, try mixing up soapy water in a spray bottle and spray the entire tire, rim, etc... See if anything pops up. |

Both these things have happened to my Rover: Dirt can get in between the wheel rim and the tire bead, causing a slow leak. Take tire completly off and remount. Use tire sealant around the rim. Also alum wheels can corrode on the inside near the rim. Alum gets flakey and causes poor seal. Randall |

When I had my MTR's installed I had them use a glue to seat the tire. On my other rims the Interco tire would sometimes slip on te rim. I have seen this with other tires as well on Alum rims. |

Poor soapy liquid all over it - you'll find a leak this size without any problem. If its in the rim seal, you can just break that part of the seal and slip in some sealant or just clean it. If its in the tread then you probable got a small nail still in there, simple to fix that. Dean |

I just bought a little spray bottle so I'll be able to try your suggestions tomorrow. I'll also do a search for discount tires in my area. I had no idea it is possible to replace the valve stem from the spare valve stem. I've often wondered if there is anything I should do maintenance-wise to keep my spare in good shape. Most of the time I forget that the spare is even back there! Thanks again, Jamie |

I tried the spray bottle and did not see any visible leaks or bubbles. Checked out the discount tire website. There is not a store anywhere near me. I think I will try to get in touch with the jeep club in my area. They've got big tires on their jeeps, so they might know a tire shop that knows about big tires. Thanks for your help! Jamie |

Jamie - check inside of wheel too. If you as unlucky as me - you might get wheel crack. I had it with my GrandCherokee Heep - naaaasty stuff. Looks like alloy wheels had that problem somewhere around 2000, b/c my GC was 2000 and i recently seen alloy wheel recall for 2000 XTerras tpp.If its wheel crack - then its VERY dangerous to drive around. Oh and btw - Firestone stations, Sams Club, Walmart, Costco and other superstores might be other place to check leaky tire/wheel. Its not like it takes a lot - they just sticks tire into bit water container anyway (and do not forget to wipe out that soapy water off tire right away - it will destroy rubber in time) |

Can't you just take it to a regular gas station and tell them its got a slow leak? I've done this before with my MTs and they are happy to take a look at it. They will find the leak. |

Thanks, I'll try that, there is a Sam's club not too far north of here. To date, no luck at a regular gas stations. Living in an area of retirees and tourists is not condusive for anything off roading. I thought tires were tires, no matter what kind of tires they are. I've decided that I might as well have flown in on my alien spaceship and asked them to check under the hood! Glad I sprayed off the soapy water. The only reason I did was because I couldn't tell if I had any air leaking bubbles in all of the soap bubbles. I didn't know it could destroy rubber, thanks for that info! Thanks again, Jamie |
