Hola Troops:

I did a quick search here and found limited conversation on exhausts, so I thought I would throw it out there:

A buddy of mine has a Boiler exhaust on this DII (4.0). Sounds great. I used to have Flowmasters on my Trans Am (5.7). Sounded great.

Though they both sound(ed) great, the Boiler on my buddy’s DII is much more tame than the Flowmasters I had on my TA. His has a nice deep base tone to it; my TA had a very deep rumble and was much louder. Obnoxious actually. Redneck to a degree. I loved it.

While this obnoxious sound was OK for my TA, I’m uncertain of how that sound and “Sherman” (my DII) would match. I mean this is several years later and I'm an upstanding adult now with a new daughter, hmm. Well, half of that is right.

Anyway, just curious what you thought, what works, what sounds nice, what sounds like crap, performance increases, etc. Anyone with a Flowmaster system on DII? How about an NRP system, how does it sound?

I’m having envisions of the Porsche Cheyenne commercial here.

Thanks.

After talking to Bill this morning, he meant to type Borla...not Boiler. His excuse was that it was 7 in the morning, but whatever.

I tried to correct it, but this is the best I could do.

Here ya go Bill.

Bill,

I also wanted to let you know that my experience with Flowmaster is less than acceptable. The muffler, a two chamber, rusted through after only about 35,000 miles. I went back to the muffler shop where I had them installed and was told there was nothing they could do.

So, two and a half years after having the first set put on I was looking for a new exhaust system.

Although the Borla system is much more expensive, it is probably the last system you will need to buy.

Just my .02, and yes it is still only 8am.

Take Care,

Josh

Bill,

I think you should go for it :-)

I don't care how upstanding we are as adults, a bit of well placed "rebellion" keeps us young ya know...

Besides, your daughter will probably luv it!! :-)

Bill,

When my D1 needed exhaust work I elected a stainless cat-back system from NRP. It is louder than stock, but has a nice deep rumble to it. I notice the sound most when I am outside the vehicle and it is idleing. On the highway, I really don't hear it above the din of other sounds (wind, tires, transmission, etc.). Not sure how bystanders on the sidewalk percieve the sound as I pass by, but the sound must not be that offensive because no one has ever complained. However they could be intimidated!?

In terms of increased performance, I would say that there is a slight improvement. But keep your expectations low here because, as has been noted by others on this board, Land Rovers are not known for their zero to 60 times. Good Luck.

Papillon

I have had previous experience with both Flowmaster mufflers and my personal favorite, Dynomax. I had a flowmaster 40 on my Silverado (5.3) and found it to be good and redneck. Like Bill, I loved it. It was raspy, loud, unsophisticated, crude, hillbilly, tasteless.......I could go on. This was great for a couple years, but it became annoying and embrassing. I then had a SS Dynomax put on, and just love it. It has a nice deep burble. It is never brash or harsh, just nice and deep/bassy, and does not resonate on the highway at all. It has a somewhat oval shaped case is very close in size to the original LR muffler. I would consider it.
