I am about to purchase a new Disco, my decision is between one of the last 03's, in order to grab a discount, or an 04 before the 05's come out and changes everything. The biggest difference I can find between the 03 and the 04 is the addition of CDL. I am assuming this stands for Center Differential Lock... can anyone offer some insight to the advantage/disadvantage of CDL; how does the Hill Decent Control (HDC) play into the picture - or point me to some reference materials?

Thanks for the help to a newbie!

Try and e-mail Mike Noe. has has added the CDL to his truck and could give you first hand experence.

I could give my .02, but I have never not had CDL, so it would be one sided.

One word as spoken to me by the great Disco Jedi Master:

CONTROL

Go here to read about ETC and HDC:

http://www.disco2.com/tech/history/#stopping

Go here to read about the 2003:

Next, go here to read about CDL:

After reading all of this good stuff. Do the following:

#1 Call Al Gore and thank him for the internet.

#2 Go buy a 2004 Disco 2.

P.S. So who is this Jedi Knight who taught you so much?

well, I would get the cheaper one and then the money that you saved I would install lockers front and rear so you donīt have to worry if you made a bad decision. BUT personally I would get the 2004.

Paul, I read your big post earlier this evening and was laughing so hard that I couldn't type.
Too funny!! That was great, thanks!! :-)

Bill, When you call Al to thank him, will you please ask him: WHERE is this internet located? :-)
