Looking at a 96 Range Rover 4.0 and would like to check it out on Carfax but I reached my limit. Can anybody tell me anything about it. The VIN is SALPV1242TA344037. Thanks in advance. |

Are you looking for specific history for that truck or want to know the options from the factory? |

Basically a carfax report to verify mileage and whatever other happy nonsense they provide. I guess even factory info would be nice as well. Thanks |

I wouldn't put too much faith in Carfax. Last month, a friend signed up for the 1 month 'as many as you can run' deal. I wrecked (totaled) my 97 DI on 10/1/01. I asked her to run my 97's vin to see if it showed title as 'SALVAGE' or wrecked or something. Title came up as 'CLEAN'. This is 6 months after I totaled my D1 and it was sold to a salvage yard. I just wanted to give a bit of warning - so you don't put all of your faith in Carfax. -tommy (with a nice DII to replaced my totaled D1) |

Did Carfax report the title change from you to the salvage yard? If you or the holder just signed over the title to the yard and they never processed the title to their name (which is not uncommon for salvage vehicles that may never see the road again), then would it show up as anything but the last state it was in on paper? Yeah, carfax is total BS. I feel so ripped off for getting a month of it last fall. They tell you jack-all. It's more frustrating than usefull. And their guarantee is that they will pay I believe "up to" 10% of the wholesale value of the vehicle up to $5k if they give you crap info. BFD carfax! |

Carfax did't report any transactions since my purchase of the 97. Once I wrecked the 97, I transfered the title to the insurance company, who transfered the title to the salvage yard. (I had to actually sign my title, give to ins company, then they had to sign it and give it to salvage yard.) The insurance company and the salvage yard are both local, so the title never moved out of VA. Carfax should have reported at least 2 transactions since 10/01/01. The report my friend ran had the 'guarantee' for 5k as well. She e-mailed them a photo of my totaled 97 and told them that this is the vehicle they stated had the clean title.. and she got no response. -Tommy |

Quick question Tommy. What's the name and where is the salvage yard you sold your truck to? Do you know if they deal in foreign models, and possibly have more LR's? I have been trying to find a salvage yard in VA (preferably NOVA) and have had no success. Thanks! Robbie |

Robbie, I'll have to check the name of the salvage yard. I actually settled w/ ins company and xfered title to them. Ins company sold disco to the salvage yard. I know it was on Route 1 in Ashland, Va. I've got notes around here w/ that info. I'll dig it up and post it for ya. -tommy |

Thanks Tommy. Will at least call them and see if it is still there and if they have any others. I just love walking through yards and pulling pieces off. It's like being at the grocery store, but having fun |
