Ok so I got the rear driveshaft out of my 2003 Disco S and now I'm at the centralizing peg which is stuck quite well. I tried to use a make shift puller I put together but could not get it to budge. I have a slide hammer now, but I'm not sure what the best way is to get the larger diameter threads of slide hammer adapted to the smaller diameter threads of the centralizing peg. It would help me a ton if someone could give me a detailed way to using the slide hammer on the centralizing peg. Thanks in advance! |

Weld a bolt onto the peg that fits your slide hammer. Hammer away. |

Better yet, search. We just had several discussions on this, with pictures included, within the past 3 weeks. joe |

I did search and looked at the axle puller one guy used, but the axle puller I have is much flatter than the one shown in the picture. That's why I asked how the slide hammer was used, since there weren't any real detailed instructions besides welding on a bolt and going that route. |

U can try using a big socket that will fit over the peg, then a wsher and a bolt to pull the peg out...I fought mine for a couple of days... Frank |

Man did I hate that too! Try heating it up while pulling. Took me a couple of days and second person to finally get it out. |

I put together a puller of my own that would fit over the peg, but it gave way before the peg did. A big socket would work though. Mine is out now. I just have to get the oil seal out of the way so I can put in the spacer. The 2003 model does not have a 24mm nut under the centralizing peg. It has a 14mm hex head bolt that goes through a plate to hold it all together. |
