Anyone have any experience with these tires? I did a search and found very little about Firestone. I don't know if that is good or bad. Also what about Cooper tires. Pros and cons. I have a 1994 Discovery with a 2 to 3 inch lift. Thanks Charles

charles,
long time no see! Cooper makes a hell of a tire, the cooper discoverer s/t is a great all around tire, it will last, it's aggressive, and it looks pretty good and performs well. The cooper discoverer s/tt is the mud terrain, and from what i understand it is a very aggressive tire, and performs for the price, but is extremely loud on the road. You'll have to get a different opinion for the firestone.

I have a set of 31x10.5R15 STT's on my old Toyota pick-up and they are really incredible when it comes to offroad performance and I'll put it up againt any other tyre in it's class. This you get at less than 2/3 the price of a BFG. These tyres are however very vulnerable and after only 8000miles I will have to replace them because I have had so many sidewall punctures they have become unsafe for onroad use. Don't know about the noise, the damn toyota makes enough noise of it's own.

I think Bridgestone bought out Firestone. IF that is true, Firestones are really rebadged Bridgestones at a lesser price than what you'd pay for Bridgestones. And Bridgestones are a very good tire.

I have two buddies (Josh and Kai) with these tires (Firestone Destination M/Ts) and they suck (not my friends, the tires). Both of them have had lugs rip off. I'm going to forward them this thread so they can both comment.

The Firestone Destination M/T's are a really good looking aggressive tire, but they are a little loud on the road compared to say Goodyear MTR's and BFG Mud Terrains. My main problem with them is what Bill mentioned above. After doing some minor rock crawling while offroading, I had a whole lug come off flush with the depth of the tread.

I have seen another set of these that lost ALOT of lugs and ended up causing alot of unnecessary vibration.

I purchased the lifetime road hazard and am going to be taking the one tire back in for replacement. I will keep you posted on Firestone's response to my request.

For the money, spend a little more and go with the Goodyear MTR or BFG's. It will be money well spent.

Josh

"I have seen another set of these that lost ALOT of lugs and ended up causing alot of unnecessary vibration."

Those were mine! My Destination MT's lost a minimum of 2 to 3 tire lugs per tire. There were also numerous places were you could see additional lugs starting to come off. Everytime you lose a lug, the tire gets out of balance. I eventually had to trade these back in for another Bridgestone/Firestone product. I didn't have the hazard protection so I received a credit.

Overall:
They look great!
They are aggresive!
They are cheap!
but,
They come apart with any kind of off-roading what-so-ever.
They are a balancing nightmare!

Overall:
I would NEVER buy these tires again and would NEVER recommend these to anyone. The only thing they are good for is a dedicated trail rig.

ps. With Firestones' track record, it was hard to convince my wife and friends it was safe to ride in my vehicle(2002 disco II), especially after they are the ones noticing the damage on the tires.

O...

FWIW: Bridgestone owns Firestone. The companies are still indepedently operated. The Firestones are not re-badged Bridgestones. The Dueller MT and the Destination MT are not the same tire.

....this was said by a tire wholesaler I trade business with.

I have never had the Firestone or Bridgestone tires, but I have had Cooper Tires and another line they offer under the name Mastercraft. The Cooper Mud Tires are excellent for the price. The tires I liked the most were the Mastercraft Courser MT's. I had 265/75R16's on a Grand Cherokee for 50,000 miles or so. They are very LOUD on the road, but wear well and perform well in mud. I never did any real rock crawling with them, but they can get around in mud well. I bought them and had them mounted for $100 a piece. Compare that to the $160 and up you pay on BFG MT's and MTR's.

I just put the the Cooper (Durango) M/T's on my Rover (D2, 265/75/16), the traction difference is crazy when it come to offroad, and they seem to ride better onroad then my stockers. I was going to put BFG M/T and had set aside around $800 dollars for them.
Luckily, I called a little local tire shop I use sometimes and wanted to see if they had a comparable M/T. He recommended the Cooper so I went up there and walked away with only haveing to spend $340!

I as well have the Firestone MTs, and the above statements apply to me as well. I have lost numerous lugs on my tires. This is NOT covered under the road hazzard warranty. If you look at the disclaimer card at the shop it shows a pic of said problem and it is filed under "not covered by warranty"

Kai,

Thanks for setting the Bridgestone/Firestone thing straight.

Sounds like Firestones are more suitable for the Flintstones.

Hey Garrett I did another drive by your house about a week ago on my way back from SC to see if the Cruiser Karma would infect me. Thanks Charles
