Just this last week I had to slam on my brakes for one reason or another and I noticed water dripped onto my dash board. Now this wasn't a lot of water, only a few drops, but this concerns me! It happened twice over this last week and in different spots across the dash. I didn't notice any dampness where the headliner meets the window and didn't notice any water spots. My thought is that water rushed forward when I slowed down (it constantly rains in the winter where I live) and went down the seal on the outside of the front window. That doesn't seem like a very good thing seeing as though it rains at least 50 inches a month here!! Anyone have this happen? I know window seals often go bad (like my rear and rear side seals) but I can't figure this out! |

Same thing is happening to mine. However, I replaced my wind shield as well as a new window seal. So...I have ruled out the seal. I belive that it may be leaking through my sunroof seal and into the roof console. I am going to take the console which holds the sunroof controls apart and try to locate the source of this leak. However, in your case, I would bet that your windshield is leaking into that resevior on the ceiling then onto your dash. It's a pain in the ass!! Good luck and let me know if you figure it out. |

If you have sunroofs check the drainage tubes. They are known to clog as well and can cause "back up" |

Corey, Check the seals around the sunroof. They have a tendency to lift out of the trough that they sit in. The water then pools inside the roof console (where the sunroof controls are). I found the water could run along the roof liner quite far and only run down the window when the brakes were applied hard. Check out the article in the tech section at: http://www.discoweb.org/sunroofrails/index.htm Victor |

I wouldn't rule out the windshield seal too quickly. I had sunroof seals and 2 stereo head units replaced due to water leakage until the dealer determined that the windshield seal was not bad, but improperly installed. Apparently they are a pain to work with. Good luck, Devin

Same problem here, '03. (Leak at front left corner of headliner.) They just popped & resealed the windshield - saying after seeing this problem a few times, they're condfident that's the solution. I'm not too sure, since this problem started only AFTER they replaced the sunroof track for another unrelated issue. Hosing it down doesn't seem a good test, because I'd have to stand there with the hose for an hour or two! Any other specific test I could apply?

Victor - thanks for the link. I do think that I will check the drain pan and tubes out after I rule out the window seal and sunroof seal. I know that Discos have a tendency for the sunroofs to leak. I thought I lucked out but I guess it was just a matter of time! Cheers, Corey |
