Cruise control

I have found a second hand one which looks in great condition. Now I need to try and install it. Are there any precautions I need to do so as not to deploy the air bag? How hard is it to get inside the steering wheel? We have removed a dozen steering wheels in the past few months and that has been our only precaution. I believe they are small vacuum lines.
