I know there are a lot of folks that lamented the fact that Jeep never produced the Dakar and instead produced the liberty :-(

How about this - from India - Jeep purists hold onto something solid :-)

Thanks for that.? I now know why I got out of bed this morning;-)

Seriously,
DC is probably going to bringing out something very dakar-like in the near future... lots of new stuff coming under the Jeep brand. Seems they intend on mortgaging the brand to gain market share-sound familiar? There will be all sorts of "non-trail rated" stuff like the new Comapass for the ken and barbie types as well as some more serious stuff.

For anyone who is interested... a good source of Jeep rumors/stroies is:

Jeep folks have nothing to worry about.

One word sums it up: RUBICON

And next year the libby gets MB Diesel!

Latest news is that DC is scrapping the new Scrambler and will instead bring along a stretch, 5-door Wrangler (The Dakar basically).

David.. if you are referring to the Wrangler "Unlimited" as far as I know, the engineering mules and prototypes have been two doors (although the AEV Conversions vehicles are often mistaken for jeep mules).
I'm interested in the source for the four door. They have been reluctant with four door wranglers as it would erode sales of the liberty. They should be introing the Unlimited at car shows shortly, it is to go on sale by april/may 04. I'm not sure it will be available in Rubicon drivetrain initially.
Pretty soon Jeeps will be your only bet for live axle vehicles this side of a domestic heavy duty pickup.

Jeff,

I like the seating capacity in the "Mahindra 5 Door Hard Top": 10 people (only in India)
